Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

The screen is one of the biggest users of power - I normally have my screen on the lowest brightness setting as it's still very usable.

I have my screen on auto brightness. Maybe if a purchase a new battery? Could it be I might have got a dud battery?

Anyways, I rooted the phone(thanks for the link) and also did the lag fix. Things run much better. Quadrant score went from the 800~ mark pre lag fix, to 1750~ post lag fix!

Did you already had apps installed before the fix, and if yes, did you have to move them yourself or re instal them? or is that what some of those cmds do?

Are there any sweet 18 month deals on this handset? Such as £35 a month, decent wedge of talk time, texts and web...with a free handset?

Cheers

just been and got 1 today,, but they didnt have any 18 month contracts that were any good with a free phone, i got 600 min unl txt and internet on voda for 32.50 a month 24 months,, the phone itself is awsome! cant believe how good it is lol forgot to add they gave me £ 35 cash aswell lol

Yes the was a promotional stand in Manchester Arndale today, what a lovely phone and amazing screen. But I feel 24 months is way tooooooo long...I've only just gotten used to the idea of 18 months :o

That's the one I used.

I didn't have to reinstall the apps. I did have some music on my SD card, I just backed that up to my PC and then did the partitioning of the SD card, then put the commands in. I followed the video tutorial in that link as well. Quite simple really.

;)

Cheers for the info ;)
Just need to see if the card reader in my laptop will work...
Is it really that noticable a difference in performance? Worth doing?

For the lag fix, can you partition the sd card whilst it's in the phone? I loaded up Partition Master 4 but it doesn't seem to recognise it. I'm guessing you have to plug the card directly into the computer?

Will 2.2 deal with any of the lag issues at all ? I want to do the fix but its far too complicated for me.
I'm still on JF3 as well.

There's a few threads on how to overcome the lag issues on the xda forums, some are tried and tested some aren't.

The general consensus is that it's a file system problem. The phone is fine until it loads an app or program that needs lots of cache data or just regular data from a RFS partition. Basically eclair (android 2.1) has a file system problem with which is especially bad on the galaxy s.

However, there is what looks likes a fix here, but it's in its early stages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748596

Another dude was nice enough to do a 1 click version of that fix for us poeple that arnt good with linux and it works great, its very simple just needs you to be rooted with the latest busybox which is in the thread. I tried it on 2.2 JP3 and no problems so far and this thing just flys. Quadrant gets around 1912 for me about others have gotten as high as 2200 so its much better than the other lag fix and the old one my SD card had a lot of probelms with it but this new one makes the partition on your interal SD card so it just works for me no porblems.

Guys does this sound normal for battery usage?
I charge overnight, unplug at around 07.30AM and my battery usually reaches about 50% by 2pm with little or no use on the phone at all. I have used task killer, and only have facebook, twitter, rssfeed reader running and use the music player for 35mins on the train to work. By 2pm it reaches about 55%, is this normal?

Try turning to flight mode (if there is one?) while on the train. I don't know the phone itself - but mobile phones in general use a lot of power searching and screaming for new towers and connections as you speed past them in a car or train.

I'd be interested to know how much that helps.

Batteries drain much faster when the phones have to work hard to keep a signal.
