Mafia II Thread

Yes it pretty much does seem to be a next gen version of Mafia with little added based on the Demo. All of the trucks still have no hood when using that view.

The Corvette style Shubert Frigate certainly ain't sluggish with a Sports tune :D and I did enjoy the driving on simulation. Seems as though the bonus cars are just that, they're not special versions of cars that appear in the vanilla game.

Before i played the demo i was going to buy this. Now im not. The graphics are pretty good, not as good as red dead but they are not bad at all. The driving mechanics are horrible, not fun to drive at all. The controls are average but can be fiddly at times.

Can't wait to try the demo (PS3) when I get home. I can't remember the last time I saw such varying opinions across the forums.

I enjoyed the demo to an extent. Driving was good enough, I mean it is somewhat date for effect, so it's excusable, but it wasn't overly bad (chose the fastest car in the garage). Letting off the gas is a good idea though.

PS+ DLed it for me (got a pre-order for PC SE) and glad I ordered what I did. It was a jaggy affair that I could not put up with. Will probably play with my 360 pad anyway, so no disadvantage to not getting it on console for me. Demo is on Steam too if you visit the Mafia II page, look to the right hand side.

PC is out of the question for me at this moment, but maybe eventually.

I notice theres a repeatable engine repair feature which fixes a non runner to the point where it will fail again with the next big impact. Not much use if the rabid Cops are on to you though :D

Thought it was good, still got the class Mafia atmosphere.

Graphics are very rough in places, another of those games where they have tried to be so detailed that they have had to scale back IQ to make it run on a console.

I really liked it. Yes there are some jaggies but it had a nice atmosphere with pretty detailed textures. I didn't find the controls clunky at all. The cover system is nicely done. Overall pretty good!

because of the dlc, i'll be getting this on ps3.

Damn the frame rate is horrible in the demo.

really? i spent over an hour on both console versions today and never noticed any "horrible" frame rate issues.

Jaggies everywhere on the 360. Graphics whores will be a bit miffed I expect.

noticed this on the ps3 version in the room you start in, also a bit of screen tearing when i 1st started playing it. dont know if i just got used to it, but after a while i stopped noticing it. didn't appear to be as bad on 360, although i played that after the ps3 version and may just have got used to it.

i liked the demo and had no problem with the controls for the most part and found the driving to be ok.

Haven't tried the demo yet but just finished watching the video preview on GameTreailers and have to say it looks fantastic. Can't wait for next week for it to be released!

If anyone is a bit peeed about the jaggies and graphics go and try the PC version if you got a good PC. I was VERY impressed by it

Framerate is atrocious, like watching a slideshow at times, and as others have said, the jaggies are awful, driving around, it's a twinkling mess, would give you a fit if you were epileptic :D Shame because the game looks like it might be quite good.
Does anyone know if the game will be more optimised on release or is this as good as it gets?
Might be one to get on the pc I think, downloading the pc demo now.
