Going on the videos it looks a much more realistic portrayal of a football match than FIFA currently does. FIFA passing is quite ping-pongy, you can mostly rely on pressing X or Triangle without even looking or aiming and it will go to a team mate, the only way to counter that is to turn off the assists which makes it overly sensitive in terms of using the analogue stick in split second intervals between passes. So it's either let the CPU do it all for you which gets pretty boring, or it's try and live with the assists turned off which is probably the most frustrating thing ever. PES has a better balance in that regards and from what I've seen so far PES has just vastly improved it's passing mechanics and added to it.
I'm not saying that last years PES was better than FIFA 10 because on the whole it wasn't. The majority of FIFA's success lies in the online club and online head to head games. The manager mode has absolutely no depth whatsoever, there are very few, if any decent, engrossing single player modes. We were promised that FIFA 10 would revamp manager mode and it didn't, it made a few slight adjustments that actually made the game worse than it was before.
The only area that I would say FIFA has PES licked is the presentation, and by that I mean the licenses and the commentary. If what I've read is true for the next iteration of FIFA then all we can look forward to is Personality Plus which upon reading into just seems like yet another random aspect which can drastically change the players performance per game for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than to "make it realistic". I'd like to decide whether I play **** or not, not some random element that EA deem necessary. They need to take a look at the NHL series to see how to properly enhance a sports game year after year, because I'm concerned that FIFA is going to slip back into it's mid 2000's add a new gimmick each year type affair.
