PC V's Consoles

+1 apart from "PC = enthusiast gamer - much better graphics and mouse+keyboard. Expensive hardware."

should be..

PC = enthusiast gamer - much better graphics and mouse+keyboard. Expensive hardware...put it in it doesnt always work the same everytime or first time, there is always at least one issue.

The only games I have a had any trouble with was old games like KOTOR. I have it working fine now, but it was a bit of a chore to get it working in a widescreen resolution that wasnt supported at the time if release.

Consoles are mostly for simpletons and the rare occasion of a good console exclusive. PC gaming is awesome and more like an excellent hoby.

PC:
-Better graphics in theory
-Better performance
-Typically cheaper games
-Easier to mod games
-Keyboard & mouse which is great for FPS/RTS
-Quicker loadtimes / larger levels
-Better support for digital distribution

Console:
-Cheaper hardware
-More major exclusive titles
-Motion-gaming (Wii etc)
-Tendancy for some games to come out sooner
-More sociable gaming when you have visitors
-More plug'n'play, don't need to spend so much time tweaking
-Wider range of titles in shops

for reasons like:
-bikes are faster than cars (consoles are not faster than pcs)
-bikes can be tweaked and customized ( consoles can not)
-bikes offer a completely different experience that cars cannot offer ( everything a console can do a pc can do it better including gamepads, gaming on couch, multimedia capabilities etc)

and many other reasons

land speed record is held by a car ;)
-bikes can be tweaked and customized ( consoles can not)

Might want to tell that to all the mod chip makes and general console modders.

-bikes offer a completely different experience that cars cannot offer ( everything a console can do a pc can do it better including gamepads, gaming on couch, multimedia capabilities etc)

Well except for say console exclusive titles.

I disagree it is a poor charter

boths cars and bikes can be customized
bikes tend to be more fun
bikes tend to accurate faster, and make a lovely noise
bikes cost a lot less than a car with equal performace

a super bike only sets you back £7k try getting a super car for 7k

Well except for say console exclusive titles.

- i wouldnt call the vehicle that holds the current speed record a car. its common knowledge that bikes are cheaper and faster which makes sense. cars are heavier and more expensive to manufacture due to the extra features etc.

-you cant change the fundamental hardware of consoles. cosmetic modding is not a big deal.

-any console exclusive title can be ported and done better on pc. furthermore there is no console game that offers a completely different experience. games like flight simulator, arma 2, total war etc offer a unique experience that cannot be had on consoles due to limitations.

most computers are bigger heavier and more expensive than consoles though. (and do much more)

Modchips?

-any console exclusive title can be ported and done better on pc.

Not legally, and no one is going to spend years + an insane amount of money to port it illegally.

but like consoles only in certain term s, yes you can use a backpack + saddle bags for a small shop (equivalent of some light browsing) but the car can do more practical work too (using pc for work/image-film editing etc).

But seriously it's a good analogy if al you can come up with is a hand full of minor things, which are hit and miss with it.

For the money they generally are tbh, because like bikes they are optimised for one thing.

A computer has a lot more overheads to run while gaming and the games are far less optimised because there is so much variation.

i'm not going to go in an endless loop of arguing with you. if you cant see that the analogy is poor then too bad.

Cant remember where i read it, but it was something about Games for Windows Live's original plan to have PC Gamers and Console Gamers all on the same server eventually.

They they got average PC Gamers and Pro Console gamers and the Average PC Gamers completely decimated the Pro Console gamers.

Think it may have been in PC Gamer? Or maybe even on here? God knows!

they tried it with the game shadowrun iirc, even with autoaim consolers got raped.

A pad just can't keep up with a mouse.

So bikes are more like PCs? :p

well case in point without making excuses for this and that..

bought the £50 ID pack from steam (quakecon)

hardly anything works.

Hexen II .. openGL issue
Quake II .. openGL issue
Quake II expansions x2 .. openGL issue
Return to castle wolfenstien .. openGL issue
Doom 3 ... no RoE key ??

so.. although you may say well thats Ati`s fault for the Opengl **** up, and the Key problem is steams fault or ID`s fault.. the overall point i was making was with a console you simply do not have to care about this stuff.

dont get me wrong i have a ps3 and 360 and a great pc but you cant be guarenteed as an overall experience that pc will be as integrated and straight forward as a console... and with gaming after a hard day at work thats all you really want.
