Trance is so vastly misunderstood...

Whilst fewer and further between, there are still some about.

What I don't understand is why so many people can't accept that over 15 years a genre is obviously going to sound different to it's roots.

Give me some names and I'll have a listen. I used to go to Gatecrasher, cream, and passion every weekend between 1999 and 2004 but lost interest when the scene died down. :( Such good times and so many memories.

Recent tracks that I find good in general, or ones that have a more old school vibe?

Blast from the past, I've just noticed how you spell your name and I'm sure I used to have one of your mixes on CD in my car, what's the chances of that :p !

Lol!

I have been plastering them all over the internet since 2002, so higher than you might think, hehe.

My most recent one, Crystal Clear, has been very well received. :)

It was around 2003 so it will have been one of your early ones! Can't remember what it sounded like just the name doh lol. Crystal Clear is the one I've got on the DL atm. If you don't mind me asking what equipment do you use?

Varies, up until a few years ago, 1210s, a CDJ200 and DJM300 mixer. Started to mess around with Ableton (Playing Favourites, Second Best, Third Time Lucky), and now mix on CDJs when playing out, and Traktor when at home. I haven't the space and money to invest in a CDJ set up at home, so Traktor does the job of keeping me up to scratch with my music, and 10 years of mixing means that when I do play on CDJs at a houseparty or club, it's like riding a bike. :)

Yeah CDJ's are just a total rip off, I'd have to be rolling in it before I even thought about it, I've got some denon dns3500's that are about 5 years old and apart from ease of use for beginners I don't think the CDJ's are any better. Just got passed your first transition, I take it you're using some sort of Traktor controller?? I go for 6 months to a year without mixing and its very easy to get back into it, more so with cdjs than 1210s.

Traktor scratch pro is unreal - I sold my audio 8 recently because I'm not djing at the moment but good god it's awesome. The loops and effects on traktor are awesome. I had a novation nocturn controller to control everything, which is a decent controller but this is what you want!

My mate has CDJ1000 MK3s that I get to play on from time to time, like the epic houseparty happening tomorrow :D Lovely bit of kit, but one of them costs the same as both my 1210 MK5s cost in 2004!

And I actually don't use a controller, haha! I've messed around with VirtualDJ and Traktor for years, usually for quick plays with new music to get an idea of what works with what, much quicker than using decks/cdjs. As such, I am surprisingly proficient using my keyboard and mouse to mix, hotkeys ahoy! :D

Haha yeah just not happening at the price, I wouldn't mind if the technilogy justified the cost but they are only that high priced because they are the standard. I'm surprise its possible to be that good without a controller :p Don't say you don't use a monitor to cue either lol?

Hahaha, no, I do indeed have 2 separate channels for queuing and for master output. Thanks for the compliment though. :)

Some of my favs from the past few years.

Don't like any of these - sounds like trance by numbers and not much different to the trance that was criticised by the OP.

put those tunes next to something like this masterpiece and it's like comparing The Cheeky Girls to David Bowie! And this was made 11 years ago. The production is just leaps and bounds ahead - still!
