do you believe in heaven?

Although I suppose the thread title does specifically say Heaven.

I do think there is a big difference between Religion and the personal idea of a certain existence after death.

I suppose the crux of my argument is that 'Hell' (the final one) is not a created place of punishment. It is an uncreated consequence of our sinful nature remaining. 'Heaven' (the final one) is a new creation or recreation.

This sounds to me very much like a modern apologists argument for why God casts people in to hell to suffer for eternity for relatively minor things. Sort of trying to twist Christianity to allow God to fit in better with a modern morality.

This raises another question: if we do find the technology to detect "God", knowing the violent nature of the human race, would some crazy man attempt to find a way to kill it?

I think that given the behaviour of "god" in the bible, its more likely that the violent nature of "god" would attempt to find a way to kill all of us :)

I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.

If need be, show them all the beauty they possess inside.

I think it's possible for Heaven and Hell but it's impossible to know until we die. Of course, at that point, it's win-win scenario:
1. Go to heaven because you've been a good chap.
2. Have no consciousness and are unable to worry.

I hope heaven isn't eternity though, living forever terrifies me. Everything has its time. Though considering your brain is simply complex concoction of molecules etc, and those molecules will go on to making another species at some point, what's stopping them from making up another person in 10,000 year's time?

Nope.

People will spend their whole lives subjugating themselves, or follwing rules so that when they die, something happens to them, why not just live the life you have the way you want it not obeying religious rule, as you can be certain you are here, there is still no certainty about what happens after you die.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment quoted.

As an agnostic I do not believe in Heaven per se but do not discount the possibility.
A Christian friend raised an interesting possibility, he believes that Heaven and Hell are not as described in the bible but rather that Heaven is being with God and Hell is knowing that you could have been.

I don't

I'd love to be proven wrong when I die though, will be all like 'WTF?'

This...

I dont believe in God or Heaven but would love for someone to find some proof either 100% for or 100% against....

It would make matters a lot more interesting :p

Surely any deity will see past that anyway, so you might as well use some brain power on something more productive

The thing is though... (apparently) God will forgive all your sins, so regardless of whether you believe or not, he should always take you in (apparently)...

And in the end of it all, it is God's fault... He (apparently) made us and thus he made me a non believer and thus cast me aside to an afterlife in hell (apparently) which is not very nice :(

big meanie!
