Thats with :
3G enabled.
Two movie widgets running.

Auto sync enabled, facebook, contacts and calendar.
Wireless and network location Off.
Brightness set manually to minimum with a dimmer app to reduce it further from 30 to 10.
K9 email sync every hour. Several email recieved and deleted.
2 -3 txt msgs recieved.
Several Facebook notifications recieved and viewed.
1 short phone call.
30 minutes playing a puzzle game.
No Live wallpaper.
Downloaded and installed two apps from market.
Updated three apps from market.

EDIT: That was unplugged at 07:00 first morning, then at 23:30 put into Airplane mode till 07:00 the next morning and back into airplane mode at 23:30 again till 07:00 the next morning...

Does the live wallpaper have a notable effect on battery life? Also, what app are you using to reduce brightness further?

Guys my mate has just got a galaxy s on voda, he not able to download any apps from the market ! is there a problem with voda or his phone ? im able to download fine on my hero.

ive checked all his settings against mine, but all it does is say starting download and wont actually download.

Hi had the same problem with mine (received last week on t-mob). Think its a problem with a firmware revision. Try running google talk then your downloads should magically start. Worked for me!

I agree but I'm looking to hear from owners who made the jump from the Desire to the Galaxy as they can provide the best conclusion if that makes sense?

I can read reviews site all day but hearing from actual owners is can help me decide whether to purchase or not. Hope that makes sense?

I may be in a good position to lend some comments as my wife has a Desire and I have a Galaxy.

Some thoughts.
With a little tinkering the Galaxy can easily compete with the Sense UI.
The Galaxy is a better looking phone and the screen is significantly better than the Desires.
The Desire's GPS tracks far quicker and more accurately than my Galaxy. It's not that bad on the Galaxy but as a Geocacher the Desire makes the job easier.
Battery life seems about the same though the Desire charges faster.
I've not done any of the lag fixes so I'd comment that whilst the Galaxy lags occasionally the Desire never does.
Neither has ever crashed or hung so bad it's needed a hard reset.
Both pick up wifi about the same.
I prefer the swype keyboard on the Galaxy.

Both are great phones and if I had a Desire I wouldn't upgrade for a Galaxy. That being said if I was to pick one having now played extensively with both for a few weeks I'd pick the Galaxy.

That's useful, thanks. So basically they're pretty damn close.

Must say that the Desire looks nicer to me, higher quality, "industrial chic" I think they call it! Then again that can only ever be down to personal opinion, and the screen probably improves the Galaxy's 'looks' when it's switched on as it's so immense.

I had a problem initially with the android market. My phone kept saying something about a network error. Turns out I needed to register my credit card at gmail checkout (yeah I know I'm a total n00b). Was annoying that the phone just blamed a network connection instead of the real reason!
Whilst googling about the problem it seems other people have had to delete existing card details & re-enter them or another card to get it working properly. Hope this helps..

When I first got the Galaxy I felt as you say the industrial chic of the Desire and heftier weight was better. 2 weeks on now and even after my wife offered to swap handsets I really do prefer the lighter Galaxy. The larger screen and metal trim look real class.

It's still a close call though and both are fantastic handsets. You won't be disappointed either way.

Heh, if you're anywhere near Beverley drop by and have a play with both :)

I suppose it is easier to wipe clean the galaxy too because the matte rubberised finish on the desire requires more work to keep clean!

Galaxy is currently ongoing with a stock FroYo build. I'd only consider the phone (if I didn't have a Desire) once a fully compatible FroYo stock build was released. The Galaxy can be unlocked without rooting though so network locked handsets need not be a bother any more. Unlock codes are stored on the phone itself :)

I have read that the Live wallpaper can eat your battery, so don't use them, as for lowering the brightness of the screen, I use an app called: Dimmer

Works like a charm :)

I like the look of this, this will solve the average battery life.

This 3200mAh extended battery does turn the Galaxy into a bit of a chunk, but double battery capacity probably means around 3 days of regular use on one charge (If the advertised battery capacity can be believed).

Just bought a galaxy from o2..£355 and will be here tomorrow. I have had my Hero(i shall try and sell it now) for 3 weeks and made the mistake of trying a friends Galaxy:D

Just recived my galaxy about an hour ago and so far im very impressed. The 2 main things over the x10 are the quality of the screen its general responsivness, i also get a stonger signaly then i have had on any of my previous phones.

Only problem i found out the box was i had no 3g, all i had to do was reset my connection to auto connect.

Its also a nice touch to have a couple of free games preinstalled, asphalt 5 and bejewled... Atleast i hope they were free

Not free, included in price.

oh, just tried bejewled again and its now asking me to buy it , tetris did this to me on the first attempt so now i have to find out how to uninstall them, as much as its nice to have them my wife plays them sort of games a lot more then me. atleast asphalt seems to be free which is more my sort of game... either that or ive somehow purchased it without pressing anything other then install.

I've not had a proper smart phone before because from playing with other peoples they seem slow and pointless. The galaxy s has changed my view, it is sooo smooth and fast. I've installed hundereds of apps, flashed the firmware, change the launcher, used the lag fix... Im still playing about with it but im not even close to bored with it!
Oh tmobile network is a pile of **** though.
