Incidentally, thanks to kar for teaching me some really useful stuff last night. Shame I'm going away for 2 weeks this weekend so I can forget it all..

Sometimes a break is good :-) I need a break and maybe I can finally beat Indie :)

Hmmm I've thought a bit more about the Mass Vikings thing. On Team Liquid about a week or so ago a post was made than basically showed Zerg players how to easily spread their mutas when fighting Thors. PsyStarcraft has also done a youtube video demonstrating the method.

It basically makes Muta Vs Thor viable. Put simply if you select all your mutas then move them to a point on the map, they will clump together at that point, but a few seconds later they will spread out. When fighting Thors, move them to a safe place (outside enemy base) let them unclump then move (not A+move) them above the thors (by selecting a spot past them) and press H (when above the thors). This will have your mutas attack the thors, but will keep them wide enough apart that they do not suffer splash damage.

I guess The terrans I have played against have over-reacted to this change in the "Meta-Game" and as a conciquence they are going heavy Vikings to deter Muta play. That said (As I have stated above) As a Zerg player I want to see lots of Vikings, because Hydras pwn them.

The magic box, that Idra used to own Tarson :D

I've only played zerg v terran like 4-5 times, but don't mutas absolutely obliterate mass vikings?

I haven't seen the IEM finals yet :( none of my favorite casters have cast them Psy Starcraft seems to be casting the Morrow V IdrA GrandFinals. But I'd like to see the run-up to that too.

Here's hoping Day[9] will cast them upon his return.

Not worked out the Viking Vs Muta matchup. But I have never been comfortable fighting Vikings with Mutas. Their Range 9 is a bit of a PITA tbh, and they seem to deal with my flock quite efficiently in even/slightly lesser numbers.

If I see Vikings, I go Hydra. Its about as one sided as it comes (even after vikings land)

AskJoshy on youtube is casting the IEM finals I think. He's an iCCup caster and very good.

Regarding Desert Oasis, I am absolutely terrified of that map. :D

I'm not comfortable with Protoss air whatsoever, I mainly stick to ground and the immobility of a protoss army really puts me off on DO. Stalkers and Zealots with speed are the only decently fast Protoss ground units so they're an absolute must on that map. But it's still so easy for terran to drop you or land tanks on the cliffs and harass you. Blink stalkers help with this but they're terrible against tanks and stimmed marauders. Against zerg, zergling runbys on your natural are horrible because it's so open. I have the map voted down so I never play it anyway.

I just bought this on a bit of a whim as I really want to like RTS games but I can never seem to get in to them, because I get fed up too quickly as I'm just too rubbish at them. :( I randomly came across a video blog thing from Day9 I think it was yesterday who actually explained the beginner side of things very well without going in to deep strats and build orders which confuse me really at my level. I want to get in to the MP really, but most likely I'll start with the SP for a bit.

Wish me luck on my quest to RTS competency. :o

This is pretty much the first RTS I've played, but I found it quite easy to pick up and get into. Obviously I'm far from being good at it, but I can hold my own in most battles now, and the single player is great fun too. You'll be surprised how quickly you can get to grips with the basics of it!

Well hopefully it will be the same for me. I've tried learning the genre with so many games before it's hard not to lose hope very quickly. I figured with the amount of people behind the game, Starcraft 2 would finally be the one that does it for me.

Give me a bit of time to practise then perhaps we should have a few games together DAnDan. :o

I think one of the the best things anyone can do, is get someone (or a group of friends) to practice with, who are reasonably close in ability in order to play against regularly.

having someone you can play against competitively and yet post match you can say "I've been on the ladder recently and X happened, can you review this game with me and emulate it so that I can see if I can practice against it."

Also having a few friends that are that little bit better than you helps and it gives you a challenge. (conversely those better players can use you to try "experimental strategies"

That way you will always improve.

I regularly team up with my Diamond 1v1 friends and it helps to have that support in game so you can learn without being wtfbbqpwned

by default H displays the status bars for all units/buildings

edit: but only in replays i think....

edit2: just checked... its the shortcut for 'hold position' with a unit selected :o

Holding down Alt turns health bars on/off depending if you have them on or off permanently. Does anyone else move around the map by holding down the middle mouse button?
