**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

What is with the mass Vikings? Is there some recent pro game where it worked that I have not seen?

nope there just a good solid terran unit....heck they have great range and get a ball of them and they own most air units out there ,that added with the fact that they can turn into a great ground unit vs zealots and there pretty much a low cost risk.

Heh! Thankfully i don't have an xbox and i don't even have a facebook account. Spending time on FB? I'd much rather gnaw my own hands off. Infact i've spent too long online now so i'm off :D

Not going to turn this into a rant and how you spend your time is your deal but your attitude to people who like to game a lot is a bit wrong. Just like its your choice what to do it is also ours.

Wonder if you are one of the many people that says they are 'off' but instead go watch pointless tv :p

OT: My 2nd trial now ran out so waiting on the full game to arrive tomorrow. Dont let me down OcUK!

Im getting better at reading the game and knowing what people are doing when I scout. Majorly buggered my Build order in a TvT (wasn't paying attention) but noticed the guy was banshee rushing and I countered him and won. Makes such a difference, im slowly getting there.

Not so good against hydras though :P

And as I said in my above post Vikings is exactly what a Zerg wants to see. Its one of the few Terran units we pwn.

In fact I have taken to going Spire -> 12 Mutas -> Hydra Den -> Mass Hydras. just to get my Terran opponents to mass Vikings and Turrets recently. And it's been working out just fine.

Bancheese rush in a TvT utter madness. Turrets + marines + Scan + enemy Bancheese = LOLz.

Stupid Terrans ;)

Yeah I know, somehow im in platinum and never played Starcraft before this game came out. Amount of times ive failed to realise a strat the opponent was doing when I scout is amazing!

It's a real pain in the neck not playing on this game for a few days then trying to get back in the swing of things quickly. Just had a couple of games against the AI to get going and the first match was abysmal :(

Second match was much better and my macro was somewhat good  Getting supply blocked seems to be my major pitfall, as it does add up churning out marines, medivacs and marauders.

I am missing the Day9 Dailys' :p When are they going to be back :(

I would guess after MLG, since he's casting it.

Xyster: Sorry to make the obvious response here...but you do realise this is the pc gaming forum, in the starcraft2 thread? I'm not sure what the point in your posting is? Is it to make yourself feel better after getting a hiding at a computer game?

If so I hope it helped and you can move on. I would say if you are of such a delicate, fragile, nature that you feel you need to lash out in this way, perhaps Starcraft multiplayer is not for you.

I work 60-70 hrs a week and I'm a highly competitive person that's why I love this game. I don't mind losing, because it drives me on to improve myself. This is a trait that is intrinsic, that is it applies to all aspects if my life.

If you give up in the face of a challenge, seek to attribute blame for that failure externally, odds are you do it elsewhere too.

Anyway thanks for stopping by. If you actually want to improve, as opposed to bore us with your obnoxiously lame sanctimony, post a replay an we'll try to help.

I played my first MP game last week, I casually sat building stuff at what i thought was a decent pace. Then about 7 massive mech things stormed my base and pummeled me - All i had were infantry.

I don't particularly want to 'live' the game to learn the speed building ways etc. I'd have to have no life to have time to do that. Anyway, i don't mind getting beat, i'm happy that some layabout doley got a rise and gained a false sense of achievement from wasting their life learning the ways of SC2, it makes me smile - until i look at how much tax i'm paying to actually fund someone to beat me! lol :D

whatever helps you sleep at night. some people are just better than you, have better lifes than you and kick your ass in sc2 as well.

Ok whats with Protoss on Desert Oasis ATM.

In the last few weeks every ZvP on DO has resulted in them trying to cheese me. I've had Proxy Pylons, Proxy Gateways, proxy Starports. None have worked out for the Toss. All it does is give me a free win.

So because someone beat you that means they have no life and must be a layabout?

What a childish and ill founded assumption to make.

Edit: By the way, learning a build order takes all of 10 minutes, read a website quickly or watch a video, boom, done. All you gotta do is remember it, it's not hard to get a general idea of what to start off with, maybe you're just bad at paying attention to things? I was bored so I quickly went on a website and read a build order, I put it into place in a game and it worked pretty well. Simple and took no more than a few minutes to read the build list.

and before you start I have irl friends and I'm not a layabout. :D

I think Protoss feel scared on Desert Oasis. I rarely cheese, but on DO against Zerg I almost always go voidray rush. There's such a long groundrush distance that most Zergs feel free to early expand which lets a super aggressive voidray attack win.

Against Terran I cheese because I know if they get a tank or two they can take that ledge opposite my base and cane my gas line. And there's little you can do to stop it other than to hit them first.

I've never tried a proper void ray rush. I don't like the idea of investing all that gas into a unit with quite weak health. I probably should try using them.

Random question can Pheonix's pick up any unit no matter the size of it?

It depends, if they scout it, and react appropriately, it'll fail. If they pressure you, see you don't have much at your ramp, and they go very aggressive, it'll fail.

However, if they don't spot it (on desert oasis it's possible to deny scouting by walling your ramp off) they might do something stupid and Fast expand or go with a maurauder heavy composition. If you rock up at their base with two void rays ~ 6-7 min mark, get charged up on a refinery and or extractor, odds are you will win. One charged void ray will kill a queen. Two charged void rays will easily kill 3 queens. So if the zerg doesn't have at least 4-5 hydras or mutalisks you can win.

Against terran 2 charged void rays can take out a 6-8 marines. Especially if you abuse cliffs.

Phoenixes can pick up most units except ultras, thors and colossi.

On many maps you can charge the Rays on rocks that are in the way of base expansions close to your enemy's main base, which is a nifty little trick. Another trick is you can use your early Rays as defence by charging them on your own buildings, just pick a non-essential one :p. A couple of charged Rays can take down almost any small-medium rush.

If you are going Rays, invest in the Armour and Shield upgrades (Cybernetics/Forge).

Rays really are worth the Gas. They are epic once charged: as above, when starting to attack the enemy if you have a few Rays with a few Phoenix's (advisable) you can sacrifice one Phoenix by allowing your Rays to start charging on it. 3 charged Rays will take down 6-7 Battlecruisers fairly quickly.

No, Phoenix's can't gravitate 'Massive' units.

Against terran 2 charged void rays can take out a 6-8 marines. Especially if you abuse cliffs.
More, easily more. They will cut down pretty much any early-mid rush most people can put together, when fully charged they are so op.

Obviouly I'm no expert on the TvP matchup. But all the same DO has 2 main features, short air distance, long ground distance (like Scrap Station)

This means any Strats that abuse air, or abuse the use of air are strong.

As a Zerg I mix it up. If I get an inkling that they are going Air. I mass Hydra. If I think they are going ground I mass muta. I have had some really good games on DO in the Beta, against all races (zvz is a bit stale tbh). But since release Toss in particular (it seems I only play this map against Toss ATM) just cheese, and its not like Voidrays and Phoenixes are not good against Zerg.

Against Terran, Toss Have (IMO) the same cliff advantages as terran Colossus drops should work, Templar drops should work, DTs should cause mayhem. And lets not forget placing a proxy pylon near the base to spawn your units in uber fast.

Honestly I never see the point of Proxy gateways when a well placed pylon gives you 99% of the functionality and is almost completely risk free. (Obviously there is a delay whilst Warpgate is being researched.)

Kulas Revine is an anti-zerg level Terran and Toss both terrorize me on that map. But I'm never going to stoop to a <10 Pool. In my mind cheesing won't make me a better player and won't help me in the long run. I don't even Veto any of the 1v1 maps because again it doesn't help me in any way.
