cinema prices!

Most cinema's dont make any money from the actual box office, which is why popcorn and drinks are so expensive.
This however may have changed recently as I no longer work at the Showcase in Nottingham but It was true when I was there.

If people will pay the stupid prices then they will charge them.. simples

I used to pay one shilling to get in and 3 old pennies for popcorn and a large drink and still have 1 half crown for flash cash :D

Me and the missus saw The Expendables, last Orange Wednesday being the cheapskates we are.

Then went to get some pic'n'mix.

Grabbed a cardboard container, thinking it was a standard price for the size of container, and crammed as much as you could possible squeeze into it.

My heart sunk when the cashier then WEIGHED it.............. £11.62

Not such a cheap visit to Vue.

I believe they also often need to change the projection glass/projection surfaces too though. There is a fair investment needed, and it is a "premium" product. If people aren't willing to pay, just don't go, and they'll get the message.

I'm not overly familiar with digital projectors but I believe most of the reflective surfaces are hermetically sealed and are not to be touched, at all. Or so I've been told anyway. Unfortunately a lot of my knowledge on them is second hand.

As far as I'm aware the only maintenance would be replacing a bulb when it's gone and cleaning out/topping up the water cooling loop as well as minor tasks such as ensuring the lens are not dusty.

Everyone knows pic&mix is by weight :p

Still, and always will be, the case.

Crikey at the prices in OP!

Just booked 2 tickets to see the Expendables on Sat night, £24 but thats for VIP screen in Storm/Oddysey - coffee before, plush leather recliners and free drinks/popcorn refills!

And most cinemas over here are the same price for 3D as for normal movies (I think, remember seeing it advertised in at least 2 cinemas)

£11.62 on pick 'n mix? Lol.

Should've gone to WH Smith's. £3.99 for a big tub that you cram to the brim.

That's what I will be doing when I go to the cinema next weekend. :D

Cineworld £13.50 - go as many times as you like to cinema each month a lot cheaper in the long run.
Gf just sneeks in 2 for 3's from asda across the road :P

one thing i hate with a passion is popcorn bags ... and people munching! grrrr :P

£11.62? Oh dear.

That same Monday I went to the movies (#66), I asked for tap water. The guy started this whole **** and bull story about how it was horrible and he 'preferred' to not to serve it to customers. Yeah mate, it's a legal right to serve tap water if you serve any food or drink. I don't want the over priced pop or any other drink.

I can kind of understand why cinemas do this - rumour has it that they have to cover their costs by charging so much for food/drink. But it makes the whole experience too expensive.

£13.50 a month for unlimited (3D supplement of £1.50) films at Cineworld. It's a bargain.

Yeah me and the missus have these, so good :)

We can pop in whenever we want as both work and play near the local Cineworld, its very handy and I can watch any old trash and not feel so bad.

Usually sneak in some chocs and bottle of water, same they sell but at half the price. Might 'treat' ourselves from time to time, but £7+ for drink and corn is high.

It's somewhere between £5-6 for a student at my local Odeon (Guildford). We also never buy food/drinks from the cinema because they're always horrendously overpriced, so it actually works out to be relatively cheap evening/night out compared with most things.
