cinema prices!

Me and the missus saw The Expendables, last Orange Wednesday being the cheapskates we are.

Then went to get some pic'n'mix.

Grabbed a cardboard container, thinking it was a standard price for the size of container, and crammed as much as you could possible squeeze into it.

My heart sunk when the cashier then WEIGHED it.............. £11.62

Not such a cheap visit to Vue.

hahahah that is brilliant

£10.20 for IMAX in Cardiff. Going to watch Avatar with the GF. We'll probably book them using Orange Wednesday's. :D

Worst money I spent on the cinema was to watch Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang at Showcase in Nantgarw. Cost something stupid like £6.40 each for student tickets. And it was ****

£14 each for over 3 hours of entertainment? I could think of bigger rip offs tbf and as i'm sure you know, if you don't like it you don't have to go...

Orange wednesdays doesn't work with IMAX cinemas.

Thats mad.

When Avatar came out last time i paid £24 for me, my ex and her mate in 3D aswell.

Ive spoke to a few of my mates who saw it last time it was released to see if they are going and they said yes. Unless your told what scene is 8mins longer you wont tell the difference will you?

The Orange Wednesday offer is available at all ODEON Cinemas. To get two tickets for the price of one for most performances (including 3D & IMAX) on Wednesday only for Standard and Premier seating - just show the code when purchasing your tickets from the Box Office.

Will ring up to book tickets any way so shall see what they say when we do it.

So were in the film does the unseen 8minute scene come into it?

Anyone who has seen it before, wont realise were the extra 8mins comes from.

Ah my bad I didn't know that Odeons had Imax screens I always thought they were independant as the one's ive seen have been. Imax on orange wed would be ridiculous bargain!

heard avatar is coming out tomoz with 8 mins of extra filming and as ive never experienced 3D before i decided to go see it. went to vue to check prices and found they are ridiculous!

want to go and see it with 3 friends. as were all over 19 years old this would equal this much:

£42 excluding popcorn/coke/nachos etc just for 3 people.

im a bit surprised theyre allowed to charge this much.

do you think theyre right to charge this amount of money for a film?

At that kind of price, it will keep chavs and the like out, thus it guarantees a more enjoyable experience :)

I'm not overly familiar with digital projectors but I believe most of the reflective surfaces are hermetically sealed and are not to be touched, at all. Or so I've been told anyway. Unfortunately a lot of my knowledge on them is second hand.

As far as I'm aware the only maintenance would be replacing a bulb when it's gone and cleaning out/topping up the water cooling loop as well as minor tasks such as ensuring the lens are not dusty.

I was referring only to the fact that they'd need new equipment, as a one-off cost. Tens of thousands of pounds apparently, but indeed it is over-priced - but any "premium" product is.

 After reading this thread, I'm pretty glad I've invested in my home cinema.
If the film I watch on it is awful, at least I can sell it.

I can also:
Watch it in peace
Eat & drink what I want without fear of being caught
Adjust the Volume & Picture to taste
Stop & resume for loo break
not pay for repeated viewings. :D

My eyess can barely see 3D in the cinema anyways. But yeah it's pretty expensive, you just have to find the best deals. Where I live there's 5 theatres and they are all different :D

1) 4$ per ticket. (old cinema but very good still imo, i prefer it over 2 and 3)
2 and 3) 10.50$ ticket
4) 11.99$ ticket (very large screen)
5 15$ ticket (IMAX)

I went to vue to watch Inception. Looked at the price of £8 for a large popcorn and coke. Laughed and walked over to Morrisons and bought 2 bags of popcorn and a 1.25l bottle of coke for £3. No one checked my bag and I just got it out in the cinema and no one cared :)
