AMD Radion HD 6870 Benchmark At Guru3d

When you take in to account driver support the 460 is worth at least another £30 over the 5850 so £150 is about right. :D

No chance! ATI driver support is absolutely fine if you arent doing CF, sure the high idle clocks on overclock bug is bloody annoying but it isnt like you get more single GPU problems with ATI drivers than Nvidia.

I agree ATI need to be higher performing than Nvidia at the same price point which is why I think £175 for 5850 compared to £170 for 460 1GB is fine as the 5850 is ~10% faster

TBH the 5870 is a real bad buy at current prices, I mean if I wasn't such as sucker for the best tech I would have bought a 5850 on launch, the 5870 is not significantly different to a 5850 to warrant even a £40 difference in price, It's the same card apart from 160 shaders that make marginal difference in performance.

TRD, you don't need to agree.
But why is it ok at 200+? That's more than it was when it launched... Still..
At a push, 170 perhaps.

Its basically like saying if you had a business and you were manufacturing say 1000 cards a month. You were able to sell your whole 1000 cards for £100 each and make £100,000 each month. So why would you then drop your cards to £75 and only make £75000 per month when you are selling all your cards in the first place. If amd start struggling to get rid of the 5850 cores then we may see a price drop but as it stands business for them seems to be going good.

You have to remember its also the partners and the retailers that dictate price also.

Yep always a possibility, and having been bought out it is more likely than normal. I doubt it though, for the first time for a long time they have been on top and I doubt they would easily let that go.

If that was the case they could seize more ground having competition to the GTX460 at the price, they don't.

^^^
It's ok at £200 because if the price was £170 they wouldn't sell any more units than at £200 due to being supply constrained.
