Why are so many people semi-literate?

Perfect grammar and punctuation is surprisingly difficult to achieve. I think most people just type away and don't bother correcting mistakes before clicking that Post button.

The question I have to ask, so I shall put it here, is why have so many people not faced up to a Cougar and proven their true worth? It disgusts me.

Only then can we hope to be disciplined enough to curtail our meagre grammar misdemeanours.

There's "Perfect" and then there's the terrible mess you see from most people on here, or the whole internet.

I am actually surprised when I see "you're, your, there, they're, their, were, where, ware, wear" and apostrophes used properly.

The main one I'm noticing lately is people thinking "have" is "of", "could have" for example.

Definitely laziness.

In response I tend to adopt the attitude of "if you can't be bothered checking it, I can't be bothered reading it".

It's nothing to do with schooling, it's pure laziness.

Laziness in learning at school? I have noticed it becoming more and more prevalent, not just on the internet.

I think that it reflects badly on the person and makes him/her appear a bit 'thick'.
I am more inclined to respect a poster's advice and opinions if their posts don't contain poor spelling and grammar, the odd typo is usually obvious, rather than a general lack of literacy skills.

I think a funny example of this is when a bunch of idiots harrased that pediatrician thinking it meant pedophile.

Typos are obvious, but you soon realise they're not typos when the person puts an apostrophe in every word ending in the letter "s".

If you understand what the other person is saying then who cares if there are a few mistakes?

dat b in sed i wnt evn tri 2 reed nethin dat lks lyk dis

dat b in sed i wnt evn tri 2 reed nethin dat lks lyk dis

I presume that's what the OP is referring to? There's no justification in picking out people who may struggle with the finer points of language, but when they make no effort, they deserve all the flak they get!
