People who commit crimes should lose the right to have children

How about breeding licences? More money for the government and make it a criminal offence to breed unless allowed to? :)

Every single person in this thread has committed a crime at some point. Your idea is stupid, but then again you seem to be going for OcUKs TOTU (Troll (or should it be Tit) of The Year award...

That's funny, because I don't have a criminal record and never have.

Great, within 20 years we won't have a single kid in the country...assuming the op means all crimes, no matter how small (speeding, dropping litter...)

Having children is a PRIVILIDGE, not a right IMO.

Why should a 50 a day chain smoking, fat council estate **** have a right to breed and spread her filth?

By taking away the rights of certain people to breed, you actually are protecting the child before its even born.

A better idea would be to address the issues that cause people to commit crime in the first place. Additionally, a number of offences that carry custodial sentences are not exactly heinous, and there's no reason to stop people who have committed them from reproducing.

I disagree. It's not a right or a privilege - it's just simply something you are born with the ability to do, and may choose to do.

So now we're not talking criminals but overweight working class people who smoke?

You're either a bad troll or a ****

In 300 words or less tell us why you should have the privilege of being allowed to breed?

Having one child is different to no children, it's management, not abolishment, even then there are many exceptions to the rule in China.

This is management too, just a different policy. Rather than the blanket right to one child in China, this balances the right to procreate with people's responsibility to society. Like I said it's nothing new, Sweden was compulsory sterilising undesirable people in its society until quite recently - has that harmed the Swedish population of today? No.

Just because you don't have a criminal record does not mean you have never committed a crime. Ever let your children ride in the front seat? Downloaded a song? Drank in public? Broken traffic laws? Dropped some litter? Of course you have broken a law.

What evidence would you have that crime would reduce dramatically

This has actually been proven. Children not born to criminal parents have a much better chance of not becoiming criminals themselves.

It is in the booked 'Freakonomics'.

I don't agree with the OP's stance though.

Well OK, but if I were to be arrested today, they would take down my name and details, look me up and they wouldn't find a criminal record, therefore I am not a criminal in the eyes of the law.

Obviously the reason for being arrested doesn't count >_<
