This question applies to you personally - your financial position. 'X' can be considered what you with your experience reasonably expect in your pay packet ..

Which to choose?

1) Job sounds great, not stunning but pretty interesting .. they are going to pay x, kind of ok wage nothing brilliant you reckon .. 15 minutes from your house door to door

2) Job sounds just ok (maybe in fact a little dull), 30 minutes further travelling each way each day, job however pays x+25% (work it out for your expected value 'x'!).

For your situation, you gonna go for (1) or (2).

You see I luckily have this exact dilemma after being offered 2 jobs in 2 days (after months of nadda!). They want their decisions by end of weekend ..

If job 1) offers decent prospects for advancement and the pay is decent enough then it would be a no brainer for me.
If you take a job that bores you it can be hard to motivate yourself to move up.

Britboy - for a guy who commands a 50k+ salary, you do ask an awful lot of questions regarding what you should do in terms of job opportunities. Surely you can answer your own question which, as far as I can tell, boils down to : more cash, more hassle, less interesting vs less cash, closer, possibly more interesting.

This is really not hard stuff even for a school leaver, let alone a man in your supposed position.

Whichever allows for more travel is the one I'd go for. But I'm currently applying for a very interesting role which probably doesn't pay much and doesn't provide for much in the way of travel but the job itself would be great.
And I agree 100% with Magnolia, your threads are very odd for someone who brags about their great success...

I would have said option 2 but after going through the mill with my employer I'd say job satisfaction is now high up on the agenda, so I left, started my own business (is that classed as cheating?).

I know quite a few people who were earning half what I did and they were very content in their work, it made all the difference.

Job 2. They both sound a bit meh, but the second pays better.
Always go for what you would enjoy most. So, 1.
I would enjoy sipping cocktails on the beach most. Should I do that instead of earn money? :p

It doesn't sound like there's much difference in terms of likely job satisfaction between 1 and 2, and +25% is a good wad of cash for what will likely be a badly perceived difference (I've never, ever been able to work out my actual job before I start doing it).

1) You can't buy happiness, but a job you don't enjoy will surely make you desperately unhappy.

That said, if work was supposed to be fun you'd be paying them to do it.

Depends which has the most opportunities long term. Why would you accept job 2 if you were unlikely to progress in the next couple of years. You could easily jump +25% in 1 year in job 1 if you proved yourself.
