ive read quite a bit on how good the 470 clocks and they are nearly 480 speeds but then the 480 wil also clock so if you have the money to get either which would you get,i only have 1 5770 now and need to upgrade while i have the money,p.s never really messed with voltage teaks either so will that be a factor if i went for the 470,thanks

Hello mate, you probably already know what I am going to say and that is go for the 480. Its an excellent card. :)

480s are a major rip off. 470s are decent value for money. For a GTX480, you pay 50%+ more money for 10% more performance. So, yeah 470. For the best value of money though, I'd get a 5850 for £30 less.

Hard call - depends on res and whether the extra VRAM is needed... my heavily overclocked GTX470 was getting within 10% of Raven's heavily OC'd GTX480 in some tests - or within 5% pushing the clocks as far as they'd run the benchmark :D in other tests tho he had a bigger margin.

GTX470 OC'd will definitely exceed stock GTX480 performance tho.

I've never seen the sense personally on blowing a ton on the top end card when the next version down is usually 50% cheaper and only 10-15% slower (and usually overclocks well too).

That would be called having common sense.

You would say that, you bought a 470.

480 @ 850 core will have a highly overclocked 470 in most things, anytime you wanna run some game benchmarks just say.

No, it's why he bought a 470. But obviously, you're only saying because you bought a 480. :p

Don't think anyone's disputing the speed, it's the extra £150. If you're determined to go nVidia, then GTX470 SLi makes far far more sense than a single GTX480. SLi 470s would utterly demolish a GTX480 for not a great deal more money.

480

I bought a 470, had £300 (ex VAT)to spend which went towards a 470 and a water block, if I was to buy it now or had known the water cooling wasn't worth it I would have bought the 480

Let's compare that to the price of a 470 now though. £190 for the card excluding VAT.

I really couldn't care

from what I've noticed even a 850 core clock doesn't or barely puts it in line with the 480

I'd have been fine to pay the extra £110 because it got me the extra performance and I only have a 750w PSU

if I had a 1000w PSU then I'd say save a bit for dual 470's

IMO afford the best you can buy

What's that got to do with anything, 480 is top GPU followed by 5870 on its tails is the 470.

470 SLI is like £450, £100 more, forget that.

I said it makes more sense than a single GTX480, especially to those who bought their 480s on release, when £450 was the going rate.

If you have the money for a 480, get the 480. The 470 is the better value card yes, but if you had the money for the 480 in the first place you will regret it imo.

Just get the best you can for your set budget mate. When it comes to top end gpus all this talk of common sense goes out of the window (I'm talking from experience here :p).

I got a 470, because i think it offers very good performance, not far off 480, for a very decent price

For me, i did not really think the extra £120 odd was worth it, however money was a consideration in my purchase, if money is only a very minor consideration, and you want the best performance get a 480, if my 470 is anything to go by, the 480 will be a excellent card

Its better to get 470 and overclock it to 480 speeds. Thats what people with common sense do, get a card that can be overclocked to the performance of a stock flagship.

On the other hand if you don't have problem with the money go with the fastest thing there is and don't stop at that if you got the money go 2-way card, 3-way 4-way.
