OK I can't take it any more * Ford 1.4 TDCI tuning help*

If you must buy an ECU you will be better off with a piggyback unit something like the emanage ultimate, but its 100% pointless on a 1.4TDCI Fiesta.

Not really as £100 ish to go from 60BHP to 85-90 is quite handy. Not worth doing anything else to it though.

Also worth mentioning to the OP, make sure you're not carrying around any excess weight in the car as well.

Was talking specifically about ECU upgrades / piggyback units, which would range from £400 upwards (not including the mapping).

If he does want more power then £100 is about the right pricepoint to spend on this sort of car.

£100 for 30BHP is a bargain ! do you have a link for that ?

Thinking about it £500 for for 30BHP is a bargain.

Jigger, visit the Tdoc Forums. Plenty of people on there have Fiestas that are tuned, remapped & intercooled seems to be the way to go.

It's a shame sometimes that people on this forum can't be a little more helpful at times, hatred for the diesel engine still lives on unfortunately!

Eh. And a motec wont? :p

Why can't you consider just getting the bigger diesel engine? Whats the point of modifying a car when there is a better version already available, for less than it will cost to modify.

Which is why people suggest he moves up to the 1.6 TDCI? Tuning any 60odd BHP engine is a total waste of time when you can simply get a more powerful model of the same car for little or no outlay...

Well realistically I'm not getting a 90BHP car with a warranty for mine plus £500.

Like I said three times already, technically yes it will, but as its a bolt on part no. The original ECU will be still factory sealed.

Who's to say the dealer will even spot a remap, why can't you remove it at a later date anyways?

Also whos to say the Motec is plug and play, unless you can buy a male or female ECU plug for the Fiesta odds are you will need to spend several hours cutting and soldering wires up on the OEM loom.

I know all this because i've been down this route before with other cars, last time out i ended up spending £200 for a custom loom from the USA.

With bluefin you can remove the remap whenever you like.

A Motec ECU is not going to plug and play, either.

This thread is full of jokes - neither will ever happen.

Cheers TaKeN, that a lot of help. Thank you.

Ive always kind of felt the engine has been deliberately retarded, as in the 1st and 2nd it feels quite promising. It certainly seems to have a lot of potential 1.4 TD kind of way of course.

I take it not many people here have used plug-in EC mods.

No offence but how old are you?

I just can't comprehend how you can't understand the futility of trying to tune such a pony engine using such an elaborate tuning method.

Answer the question: Why don't you just buy a better car than trying to make this car something it isn't and will never be?

Yes I know too...

Well I probably wouldn't have to do a lot of loom splicing, their are ways round it. But even if I did it would be unlikely any mechanic would start to strip the loom.
