just doing the rounds today and came across this, not neccessarily iOS bashing here, but coming from 3 iphones to a desire myself its clear to see apple may need to loosen its strategy a little if it has any interest in becoming trully competitive.

gone are the days where the iphone was the top dog, the need to have device - its becoming increasingly outdated with every phone release from htc, samsung and similar.

I guess if your an apple lover, one would say thats its not fair bc android is on about 20 times more phones then iphone, but thats kinda missing the point considering its apples strategy to adopt that position- and if they can only manufacture one phone a year compared to say htc's 4 or 5 that appeal to all market types then their always going to be behind.

A research firm projected Apple will sell 130 million iOS-based mobile devices per year by 2014. In comparison, Gartner projected Android will sell 259 million devices in 2014.

that if it turns true is a massive massive difference.

Especially if you consider that iOS is also on iPods and iPads.

It works both ways, with both apple and their customers harping on about how the iPhone/iOS has been competing with Symbian-based phones.

It would be a little hypocritical to turn around and say that it's unfair with android being on so many phone :p

I'd say that Android appeals to those who are more price conscious. I received a Samsung Galaxy S yesterday, and while it is a nice device, it doesn't have the same quality feel as my iPhone 4, both physically or in the software. It lags and stalls a lot, and by all accounts this seems to be par for the course with Android based devices. However, I can appreciate that Android is 'good enough' for the price points it has to hit. Personally I'd rather pay a little more for the better experience.

Thread title is a bit misleading. These are figures for the US only.

Android and iOS both have a much lower marketshare globally.

no way, the Samsung Galaxy is as fast as any, you should get NO lag with it, i have a desire and they are like for like...

if you want lag, get a iphone 3gs with os4 on :)

Well it's definitely lagging. My previos 3GS was definitely faster nevermind the iPhone 4. Hopefully Android 2.2 will eradicate this lag.

There is a known lag problem on the Galaxy S, fixable though. If anything iOS feels cheap, basic and limiting to me now compared to Android on my HTC Desire. I was a big iPhone fan but Apple have really dropped the ball lately.

Hopefully Samaung will hurry up and release Android 2.2. The poor performance is a real killer when you're used to a device like the iPhone 4.

Most of us predicted way back in the HTC Magic days that Android would pick up speed steadily throughout the following 24 months or so while some people sniffed their noses and said no way because Apple are so huge it would never happen.

Lawls.

but Apple have really dropped the call lately.

BAHAHAH fixed :p
