I picked mine up for £140 inc vat. My Win7 boot times are much quicker, the biggest difference is the appearance of the login screen to usable desktop, sometimes it's so quick the login/welcome screen doesn't even appear!

I currently have full Win7 64bit Pro install, Bioshock 2, Crysis, Stalker: COP, Just Cause 2, Mass Effect, Metro 2033 and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition installed and as you can see have a good 20 gig free.

Very happy!! :D

It uses the older Indilinx Barefoot controller, I personally wouldn't bother with it since it's a lot slower for 4KB writes than other SSD's for a few quid more you can get the 80GB Intel which is a lot faster.

It's about £25 more, for less space.

I'm not arguing about the speed, but when upgrading from a hard drive i doubt you'd notice the difference between the 2.

I felt it was a good compromise between speed and space.

The Intel drives are faster when used as an O.S. drive, there realworld performance is hard to beat, infact I think only the Vertex 2E and Crucial C300 yet still some preferre the Intels.

As already mentioned the current Intel promotion is a good one, you can choose 1 of 5 pretty good games and you get an EZ Universal upgrade kit with cloning software thrown in too, value for money on the Intel nobody beats the OcUK deal as remember the OcUK Intel SSD's are also retail versions too. :)

Never miss an oppertunity for promotion eh Gibbo, i love it! :D

Tis very true the Intel package is great value, but I wasn't interested in any of the games and already have Acronis TIH anyway.

If I didn't it would have been tempting.

but the intel only shows 250 read while the ocz shows 240 read so is it much faster wise, please im not trying to be clever i no nothing about these SSDs,and like said the ocz is £140 on another site,so its £25 difference
p.s cheers kwjay for the graph

i recieved my one yesterday. Having some difficulty working out how to do the firmware upgrade as the ocz prog wont actually detect the drive.I am running it in administrator mode in w7.

just womdered kwjay did you upgrade the firmware on your one ? did you have any difficulties , ?

cheers

Nope. Mine's showing as 1.6 already according to Device Manager. Check the last paragraph of the details below to see what version of firmware your drive has.

From what I can tell on the OCZ site you actually have to flash the drive from a bootable media rather than within Windows. Here's the steps in the PDF...

Before you start…You will need the following:

1 x Recordable CD

Downloaded version of the Firmware update program Getting started:
1.
You can updated your OCZ SSD as either the primary boot drive or as a secondary drive
2.
Download the firmware upgrade utility .ISO image file that corresponds to your SSD model to your drive.
3.
Use this .ISO image file to Burn and Create a recordable CDNOTE: This will create a bootable CD for you to boot off of.
4.
Reboot your PC and enter the CMOS Setup utility by pressing Del or F1
5.
Change the SATA mode to IDE
6.
Change the Boot Device Order to CDROM/DVDROM as your First Boot Device
7.
Press F10 to Save and Exit
8.
Leave the newly created bootable CD in the drive
9.
Turn off the PC Firmware Upgrade Procedure: NOTE: the current utility does not require any jumper setting on the drive
1.
Turn On The PC and boot from the bootable CD
2.
You will see a “Select drive to Update 1.6” screen
3.
Select the number corresponding to the drive you want to update
4.
The utility will then prompt you: “Do you want to find Target Drives?”
5.
Press “Y” to get a listing of all the SSDs attached to the system
6.
Select the desired number of the drive you want to upgrade. In most cases it will be “1”
7.
This launches the utility which will complete in 1-5 seconds.
8.
Repeat the procedure in case multiple drives are upgraded.
9.
Turn off the PC. Verification:
1.
Enter the CMOS enter the CMOS Setup utility by pressing Del or F1
2.
Change the SATA mode back to the original mode(as it was set before. If the system was originally running in IDE mode, then no change is necessary)
3.
In Windows, Click START / Right click My Computer / Click Manage / Click Device Manager/ Double-Click Disk Drive / Right Click VERTEX and Click on Properties
4.
Select the “Details” tab and click “Device Instance ID” (WinXP) or“Hardware ID” Windows Vista /Windows 7 to verify the firmware revision number.
