Will the Mac end up becoming un-cool?

LOL that pic is quite scary. Attack of the clones anyone?

When I was at uni I was the odd one out as I used to lug around my Sony Vaio AR11M (17 inch!!).

But seriously, no-one ever used their laptops in lectures, everyone had pen and paper/ring binders (This was circa 2005-2007). I feel prehistoric looking at that pic.

Agreed. The replacement parts are extremely overpriced and the customer care is non-existant.

The build quality on mine was cack as well. It was an N21E/W. The chassis started coming apart first and then developed cracks by various points where screws would go. I spent a good chunk of change on it too. I think it was about £700 at the time I bought it.

In 274 posts (that were quickly skimmed so excuse me if this has been brought up :p ) how hasn't something been mentioned: iPod + iTunes!

Unlike Mac or iPhone or Apple TV it is dominant in its market instead of a niche/also-ran. But it is still "cool". Not in a "look at me I own an iPod" way* but the devices themselves (especially the current ones) are without equal in terms of both looks and function.

So even if Macs become so common (unlikely with the starting price for a notebook at £850) the fact it has Apple's logo, design and operation will still deem it cool in a just an acceptable-everyone-has-one way.

I think the bigger question is why has nobody even attempted to go after Apple in terms of design? A VAIO is still nice (not Apple nice) but it's like the entire PC industry still hires non-caring computer nerds to design the things.

*Unless it's a brand new one a day or so after release

Talk about $$$ though. There must be 400 people in that room, so probably half a million quid of Macs minimum there. And they've probably all got iPhones/iPads/iPods. With all that plus upgrades and software, wouldn't surprise me if there is £1 million of Apple kit in that room.

After looking at that picture I've decided: When my MBP gives up the ghost it'll be replaced with....... another MBP, but sent to Colorware and made into a BlackBook Pro.

Those black one's (;)) just look soo good .

Actually I think that picture is quite depressing. Whatever happened to individuality? When I was young I wanted to be different and so did lots of my friends. The last thing I wanted was to have exactly the same things as everyone else. I couldn't help but make the connection between Japanese workers all in their corporate uniforms and the students with their MBP.
