Just having a browse around and I've noticed you can get SLK 230 Kompressors from around £3.5k. Now that seems a hell of a good deal to me. While I'm not particularly looking for one, what's the catch? I'm guessing they are expensive to service and fix?

Fair point. I guess I'm just surprised what you can get for your money nowadays :)

I also managed to wander across E30 M3's which are a completely different story... almost need a mortgage to buy one!

well built:

momma got hers two christmas ago. in the first month nearly the whole car was resprayed. they left one wing because the rust wasnt "that bad".

four wheels done too but a year later rust comes up on the other wing. they wouldnt repair it, because mb are crap.

got a quote for the paint but the painter offered a really good deal if we took it there without the bumper on.

i do a lot of car stuff, getting a bumper off should be simple. WRONG

the brackets were rotten. the bolts holding the bumper on were rotten. the bracket had rotted to the wing itself.

exhaust has gone rotten.

even when new they sounded like diesels, just go listen to one.

seats feel like cheap deck chairs. heater wont blow on your feet

my golf, with three times the mileage, knocks lumps out of the mb

In what way is £10k for an old shape SLK32 AMG a 'bargain'? An M3 cab isn't much more than that, is a generation newer, and is a considerably better car.

I would love a e30 m3 but they cost LOADS and it would be hard to justify over a e36 or e46

Hard to justify over an e46, certainly, not the e36 though imo.

The e30 is in a league of its own and of a different age.

Sounds like she bought a pup.

MB paintwork is covered for 30 years under warranty, as long as any bodywork repairs/or accident damage the car receives is repaired by them.

I previously owned an X plated CLK which I still see driving round today, no bodywork problems like you describe.

rust is so common on any merc that age. even my old mans e class had it comming through on the roof etc. (52 or 53 reg)

in fact, i dont know why im replying Jack, you must be having me on, mercs of that era are a total joke.

even his few year old CLS has issues. merc are just crap

An M5 is even better!
So what that a car in a different segment is better?

The SLK's BMW rival was the Z3..

Well all I can say and comment on is the one "I OWNED" which was fine during my ownership between 2001 and 2006. If it had of rusted and fallen to bits I wouldn't have traded it in for another CLK (06), which my wife still drives and is totally rust free.

So no Matt82 I am not having you on, that is my experience from owning 2 CLK's, maybe I was lucky, maybe you were unlucky? I would also say the 2000 model seemed better built than the 2006 model, albeit a bit the interior was a bit of a mish mash.

As my post says, I don't still own the vehicle, so please keep your sarcy congratulations to yourself Fox.

You can buy a Z4 for £10k! A 3.0i is probably no slower than the SLK32 AMG.

An SLK32 for £10k is NOT a bargain at all. It's a lot of money for an old, not particularly great car.

Mercs chronic quality and rust issues between 1996 and 2004 are well known in just about every circle.

It's quite odd that you seem up for trying to dispute there was ever an issue based on the fact you were very lucky?
