Codemasters F1 2010 X360/PS3 (contains important question about 2011 game!!!)

The problem i see is that it seems easy enough(from people on here) to finish top 5, P1, win the race from HRT, Lotus cars.

I'm not bad at it, but the highest career race I've managed yet in a Lotus is 10th. This is with TC and ABS, against legendary AI. I'm consistently 3-4 seconds off pole as well, which to me is realistic.

Either these people are godlike, or they have very low difficulty settings?

I'm still slightly confused by this scripting talk to be honest. I just look at the white dots on the mini map to see how far ahead, behind I am. I don't use the times of the 4 or so cars shown in the top left. I guess on longer races (I do 3 laps) you would refer to those times to plan pit stops etc, so they need to be correct. But for short races it is a non issue to me.

Also, unless I am mistaken it has no effect on online racing? I have played 90% online so far. I will do the F1 championship offline at some point, but, like many other games, I want to enjoy the online while there is still a large playerbase and minimum hacks/cheats/boosters, as there will be at some point (like in most games). At that point I will play SP and hope some of these flaws have been patched.

The Codemasters forums say they are having a meeting on Monday to discuss the game. Whether it is to address the flaws or to rub their hands about how much money they have made in less than 1 week, I am uncertain :)

No, wont affect online racing if you play only with other humans and it's great that the scripting doesn't bother you but we were told that this was the most 'realistic' F1 racing game ever but in fact the racing doesn't actually exist apart from what you can see on the screen at any given moment. That might be fine for the Need For Speed series ect, but not for this.

I'm just playing the game for TT (invalidated lap is triggered waaaaay too easily) and online so still great fun but the game is all shine and no substance for me. Oh well, lets see what next years version brings.

EDIT: As for Codemasters response, not sure about the Monday meeting but on their official F1 2010 game forums they are closing just about every thread raised about the fake racing. It's like they never expected us to find out and are now trying to sweep it under the carpet!

Nope, there is no slipstreaming at all in the game.

Could have sworn I slipstreamed another car :p

Slowly got closer and closer...and my top speed down the particular straight was higher whilst following this other car than when I went down the straight with no cars in front of me.

Also seems like AI slipstream from me, but could just be that they are faster. However they DO certainly follow me if I move from side to side they follow my line as I move as if to suggest they are slipstreaming.

I noticed it as well.

It's by no means as obvious in some games, but it's certainly in there imo.

Anyone else find that in Practise you can invalidate a lap but your time still goes on to the leaderboard??

Invalidated next lap kills me tbh!

The game doesn;t have many bugs, just quite a lot of bad design choices lol

The first being using the dirt engine :p

They cant close threads on other forums like here. We should have no problem discussing problems the game has and identifying them or confirming problems mentioned on other forums. At the same time its doing it in a proper responsible fashion.

If certain people here feel like resorting to just bashing the game then, create your own thread for doing that. I dont think the people interested in the game or indeed those that have bought it want to read opinions of people that dont even have it. Once again though we as consumers can question how reviewers of this game and publications never mention such bugs and it is rather embarrising for the reviewers/sites that havnt. It shows still in a sense how to use a term "you dont bite the hand that feeds you" and reviews dont seem that trust worthy.

I also await the response of the Codemasters representative that frequently visisted these forums for an explanation and legally if a game is "broken" are consumers entitled to a refund if they so wish or do not want to update the game? This goof by Codemasters is hugly embarrising of thier quality/control.

From another Forum:

Okay, so I did a Monza career race earlier, expert diff, all assists off, all sims on, legend AI. Got pole in the Virgin but that's another topic, anyways early in the race I got nice and close behind Fernando out of the 2nd Lesmo and decided I'd take a screenie as I went under the old circuit. Check the speed and the perfect slipstreaming location:

Next lap I dropped back a bit, then made sure I got a good run again through the 2nd Lesmo as I did the lap before. Tried to take a screenie at the same point, here's the result:

http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/7371/slipstream2.jpg

2nd screenie is fractionally later so hence the extra 1km/h.

Next batch at Spa qually, should be getting the mother of all tows here (and the Macca should be getting a tow from the car in front, should be a double tow!):

Then next lap, actually a bit earlier on the straight with no slipstream I'm actually going quicker:

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/9639/slipstream4.jpg

I can't notice any slipstream effect, as far as I can tell the speed you do on the straight is entirely dependant on your run out of the previous corner and ofcourse your setup. A car being in front or not doesn't make any difference as far as I've noticed.

You still think it's in the game?

You both are becomming remarkably annoying.

Yes the game seems to have faults and while its too early to condemn the game or Codemasters yet, it will be amongst many games that also do release with bugs/issues or just wont completely satisfy people. By all means its right that people mention any issues the game has and Codemasters desserve a lot of flack for it but your comments do not mention many of the good things about it and your on a mission it seems.

The list of bugs is quite astonshing though and well I await to see what Codies do with it. Seems obvious this game was pushed for a release date regardless of its play testing.

Why am I becoming annoying?

I was going to purchase this game as I am dying to play a decent F1 game on this generation of consoles. But from what I have read this game is a total shambles, fake qualifying laps....wtf? How was that even allowed?

I do not doubt for a minute that this game will have moments of greatness, and from watching the videos it does look like a good game, but the fact of the shennaigans that go on (that I have read about) behind the scenes for me totally ruins the game.

I hate to compare it to Forza 3, but if sector times/time between opponents was not in that you would be all over it!

I mean the fact that there are no split sector times/gap between you and your opponents is a glaring omission that is the essence of F1, yet codeis haven't got it in.....

You haven't played it?
Besides MW2 was released with a rake of flaws bugs and glitches and did that stop you enjoying the game. The difference is Codemasters have noted the problems and have said they will work on it. Infinity ward walked away rolling in money.

Try it you might like it.

To both of you,

How do you expect them to release a patch to change the AI to be competitive in qualifying and post the actual times they go round the track in?

As I say I really wanted to buy this game, but Codies promised this would be just like F1, they haven't delivered that. I could live without the safety car in this outing but I cannot live with fake qualifying laps.

I've read some posts on the codemasters forum where someone says the Ai laptimes decrease when you switch to a pad from a wheel.

I am interested to see how I get on with a wheel because my laptimes are miles off the AI.

I'd be interested to see what some of the better players can manage on a pad compared to the wheel.

As much as I love the chase view I've tested and noted already that when I switch to the high cam view I can turn much tighter than when I'm in chase view. I can get round the corners carrying more speed with one cam view than the other.

Just reserved this, gonna go pick it up shortly and I shall be making my own opinion, tbh I'm just happy to have an f1 game back, it's been far too long.

The problem i see is that it seems easy enough(from people on here) to finish top 5, P1, win the race from HRT, Lotus cars.

Sorry but that to me is crazy unrealistic :/

A Mclaren or Ferrari should have more pace than a Lotus. Is it the ai level? If i put AI level hard or legendary then i wouldnt be able to outpace a Ferrari in a HRT yeah?

im not finding that at all. Im lotus with all assists on apart from braking assist , i have all rules and damage on full and tyre wear.

im finding it fairly tricky to get into the top 15th.

this is with intermediate AI and race distance of 20 laps

I still think this is an enjoyable game to play.

Dissapointed with all the fakery, but the bugs should be fixed. I certainly wouldn't take it back. I think people who are really hating on it haven't played it, or haven't given it a chance.

Yes I agree it's a sham that things are made up, but it's still the only recent F1 Game and it is challenging to play, why give that up?
