Okay to overtake a police car?

ive had that many times... undercovers baiting you to race

I have really never understood this excuse: in what way were they "baiting you to race"? Tailgating? The world is full of tailgaters. I'll gloss over the fact that cars always look closer looking back than looking forwards. And the fact that cop cars tend to zoom in close for a look at the occupants, stay there until the PNC check is done, then drop back or pass. What exactly is your attitude to other road users that a) you notice "baiting to race", and b) care about it? Even if they sit next to you at the light revving their engine, why should you care? I seriously don't understand this comment. I also notice that the people who claim it happens to them, claim it happens a lot. I'm reminded about the old joke about what all your failed relationships have in common.

I once came up behind a police car who then stopped in the middle of the road, got out, walked over and gave me a lecture about speeding and how his CALIBRATED speedo allowed him to do the exact speed limit.

South Wales Traffic; WE SALUTE YOU!

I have on many occasions overtaken coppers, on motorways i think nothing of passing them at 85

Ofc i have unintentionally passed some quicker than that, I joined a motorway and was 'getting up to speed' on the slip road and joined the motorway itself at 90 and still accelerating, check of drivers mirror told me that the nearest car to me was far enough behind and i pulled into the fast lane to pass someone hogging the middle.. once im in the lane i check my rear view and realise its a marked police car behind me, how could i have missed that.. so yeah i pulled back in and took my foot off the loud pedal and grinned at the copper as he went by, I swear he was giving me his best stern look :D

I can count at least 4 occasions where i've passed coppers doing >100. To date i've had the good fortune to not get pulled

I was under the impression that traffic cop car speedos were generally calibrated?

Oh hey Fox, no i dont

Why not? I'm not a huge fan of speed limits myself but going around at over 100mph to such an extent you've driven past multiple marked police cars whilst doing it suggests that perhaps you should slow down.

There is a time and a place for that sort of speed and its obviously not when its busy enough to not spot a police car.

It's people like you that are the reason we have such laws in the first place :(

Its fairly easy to not spot an unmarked car, and none of the 4 considered me to be driving dangerously or they would have pulled me no?

If you are paying attention you can quite easily spot unmarked cars. If you are not paying attention 100mph is the wrong speed for you.

Quite honestly i lol at the fact you think its internet BS or that im driving a ford at 65, i drive a celica that i've had 6 years since i was 22 and I know how to drive within the limits of myself/the car/the conditions, i keep the car in good order, im not a loon, i dont race EVER (if ppl try i just back off and let them speed away) and i take the idea of having an accident and injuring/killing someone very seriously.. preaching from ppl here is not required, nor will it change a damn thing

But hey, if makes you feel better keep going off topic and slating me. internet heroes ftl

"YEA! I overtook police cars doing more than 100 mph. They must hav fort i woz 2 fast 4 them!"

Even if it was true, why would you publish that on the internet at all, much less on OcUK motors? You had to know what would happen.

There are moments when the police are just on patrol, and are not trying to get somewhere quickly, they are allowed to go slowly and you are allowed to overtake them.

But I always wonder if I'm allowed to overtake fire engines and ambulances when they have the blues going, I often do (mostly up hills, they have trouble with all the weight)
