6770 full specs

A lot of that was exchange rate. When the 4870 was launched we had over $2 to the pound. When the 5870 was launched it was $1.4. There was only $80 or about £50 in it ignoring exchange changes.

No, it was £469 at launch list price inc VAT. Anything more than that was price gouging. And to compare it to older cards when they were launched at $2:£1 it would have been only £351 inc VAT.

I have posted often that contrary to popular belief, the fastest high end cards by both Nvidia and ATI are no more than in the past and quite often less. It is only the poor exchange rate which makes us think they are more expensive. Factor in that $449 10 years ago was a hell of a lot more in real terms than $449 today, and they are quite cheap relatively.

List price at launch in US dollars.

x1950xtx $449
8800 GTX $599
8800 Ultra $799
gtx 280 $649
9800 GX2 $599
HD 4870 $299
HD 5870 $379
HD 5970 $599
GTX 480 $499

So the gtx 480 is only $50 more expensive than a x1950xtx was and $100 cheaper than a 8800GTX at launch.

To me, if the 6 series is a killer performance wise, then I can see them putting the 6870 out at $399 and the lower range priced accoringly under it.

Thanks, saves me posting the same thing. I'm noticing though that despite all the evidence, some people will ignore you and carry on with their "predictions" and "educated guesses", and tell us to stop with the "wishful thinking".

Some significant price differences there. The 4870 looked very cheap, and I imagine that was due to them having the 3870 before and needing to get some market share back asap.

Really? How many times has it been said in this thread that it was mainly down to the current exchange rate?

To be fair as a list price for the high end ATI card it was cheap at $299 and combined with more than two dollars to the pound it seemed even cheaper to us.

Previous high end ATI were nearer $400 so it is the anomoly. However, you are quite right that people think ATI's high end card when they remember the 4870 should be less than £200 and say that will never happen again.

But as I pointed out, if the exchange rate was right we would have been buying 5970's for £350 for the last year.

My guesses (inc. VAT in brackets):

- HD 6870 (Cayman XT), 399-449 USD (£300-340)
- HD 6850 (Cayman Pro), 299-349 USD (£230-270)
- HD 6770 (Barts XT), 249 USD (£190)
- HD 6750 (Barts Pro), 199 USD (£150)

I might be positively surprised though and the prices will match prices of 5000 series at their launch, which is very possible :) On the other hand price drops of the current series may not be as huge as some expect them to be and for a period of 3 months or so, the prices will remain rather high to drop suddenly. We know for sure that there is a new generation around the corner too meaning that the 6000 series has to be sold within a year, probably at a similar rate to 5000 series. I would expect great value cards from ATI again and another 6 months of stale from Nvidia. I mean how much more can they drop 460s pricing, that has gone a long way down already? 6750 will be potentially cheaper than 460 1GB (I'm talking $20-30 here which is 10% of the price), faster, using significantly less power and with a better stock cooling. How can this not pale Nvidia?

Unless nVidia have something more than talk on the table I suspect the 6850 and 6870 will be atleast the higher end of your range on launch, possibly as much as £330 and £499 until nVidia launch their next round. Whereas the 6770 will be trying to knock the 470 out the market and the 6750 the GTX460 so expect more competitive pricing closer to yours for those.

Was just a guess bud as there are more factors than just the exchange rate :-) I could be entirely wrong but given the prices shown were in dollars and not exchange pounds, I think I might have something :-)

Anyway, going off on a tangent...

500 for the 6870  So the 6970 released in December would be what 850 to a grand? Cant see it myself.

I really hope Nvidia will get their act together and really does release something that can compete with the 6000 series SOON...not because I side with them, but because if they fail to do that, I can't imagine how high are the graphic card price levels are gonna rise to and start becoming the norm, and that cannot be good for us consumer...

If the specs of the 6770 posted the other day are correct and the 6870 doubles up them specs for the most part then I would think £350-400 for a 6870.

As I listed above:

8800 GTX $599

So with todays exchange rate it would be £469

The 8800GTX was a beast though, so much better than the competion at the time, and at a time when Nvidia could pretty much charge what they wanted to, and when people had more money to spend.

I cant see many people parting with that kind of money for not much more than a refresh.

I think your are right. When you think that the 6770 might be matching a 5870 for speed, the 6870 is going to be a monster performer.

Hope your source is wrong because that's not tempting me away from my 480, yes you can clock a 6870 but even so I'm expecting more performance going by the 6770's specs.
