E4500CPU+MSI 1G OC GTX 460 Worst combo ever

Yeah, I'm getting a MSI P55-GD65 iP55 Socket 1156 Gigabit Lan 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard, Intel i5 760 2.8GHz Socket 1156 8MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor, and Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit. Which all should be very good performance towards my 460. I've gotten a brand new NVIDIA 334 case.
If you haven't bought the parts yet, I really think you should consider the i5 760 overclocked to 4.0GHz bundle (£399.99):

If you look below which I've quoted the parts used in that bundle separately:

So the 4.0GHz overclocked bundle (43% faster than a stock speed 2.80GHz i5 760) with Full 12 Month collect and return warranty only costing £14 extra, which is great value!

Tangent: Interesting.. DDR3 has really come down in price!

Kinda a shame, as the initial point seemed to be keeping the PC for several year's as is. Don't get me wrong, the bundle is great... but I wonder if *shudder* buying a better CPU for the existing board would be the cheaper option? (Obviously not the best performing option though!!) - Have no idea what CPU's his motherboard will support though!!

In your case, because you got a high end motherboard, I really think you should just toss a Quad such as Q6600 or Q9550 onto it (and overclock). It will last you until you upgrade the graphic card to beyond GTX480 ish.

Seriously, a E4300 on a Asus X48 ROG Rampage Formula...WTF!? :p

I don't have an option to choose for QUAD CORE, As I don't have a compatible motherboard. If you read my earlier post i've mentioned it.

Is his version of Windows guaranteed to activate on a different mobo. Is it an OEM [big name manufacturer] make machine?

Edit: Missed the made by Compaq on the first scan through.

Sorry nJoyo, I was refering to Scougar's system...wasn't talking about your case.

For your case, just refer to my post at #43. Just get a new build together now if you can afford.

LMAO :D So true. To be honest, I managed to get that board cheap for what it was, from a member here, the e4300 which I bought brand new. Yes, I need a better chip, but was thinking e8400 to overclock. (although I've been offered an e6850 cheap).

nJoyo.. if you are ok spending the money then great, just wasn't keen to get your all running around spending cash, then realise you got caught up in the moment and scewed yourself over. Any of the suggested new systems will absolutely destroy* your old one though.

*Not literally ;)
