*** Official Dead Rising 2 Thread***

There are no comparisons because the only similarity is there are zombies in the game. And even those arent similar...

Is it worth me getting this as I loved the first one, put many hours into that game, it was excellent. Is it an improvement on the original or a step backwards (I hope not :p)?

I'm not sure whethrer to get this.
I enjoyed both Left4Dead games and all the zombies in Prototype, but I'm asking myself what makes this game much different, especially from L4D (that I only played single-player, by the way)?
I've read a number of reviews, and I would have expected a lot of comparisons to those games, but as they're hardly mentioned, I'm a bit suspicious.

... seriously? You are aware that just because a game has zombies in it, it does not suddenly become comparable to EVERY game with zombies in it too... you may aswell try comparing it to Warcraft 3, that has zombies in it too.

And what zombies in prototype

Well I gave this game an hour. Performance was a bit sketchy but it's essentially:

1) Run through horde of zombies, use same repeated attack except a new "weapon"
2) "Level up"
3) Go get stuff needed for your daughter
4) Repeat from Step 1.

Seems so blocky and consoley, really don't know how this can be classed as entertainment. It's just so generic.

Sorry to all those who do like it. I had high hopes, Zombie killing RPG. Good concept, poor execution, imo.

You didn't like the first one then?

How are people still not getting it? If you played and liked the first game, which was always a marmite title, you'll like this, if you didn't..you won't.

Its not rocket science people. :D

Is this game classed as an RPG?
I've never seen it as that, to me it's an action/hack n' slash with time management and some levelling.

I love it. Don't feel like saving your daughter? Don't.
Want to just mess around with zombies whilst wearing a superhero mask and a dress? Do.
You don't HAVE to do a lot of things in this game, most of the fun (in my eyes) comes from messing about with things that have nothing to do with the story.
Coat hangers + zombie face? Might aswell.
Looking for survivors is always a good thing, chance survivor meetings adds a bit more of a "what should I do" element.

It's not the game for everyone but it really needs more than an hours play to get into. :)

Big improvement in every way but also more of the same just bigger, better & a lot more content to discover.

Your just not getting the depth at all. There are many ways to play this.

1: Follow the storyline by keeping your daughter alive & also saving other survivors which then unlocks new areas in the game as well as the 100s of different weapons & killing zombie combinations. A lot of the game content needs to be discovered & found this game does not like most modern games give you it all on a plate you have to earn & discover it.

2: Just ignore the story missions let your daughter die & go on a rampage which also allows you to upgrade your character as you go. Until you reach Level 35 or higher the later story missions are pretty much impossible anyway.

The game is designed for multiple playthrus as that is the way to upgrade your character & it then makes the entire game more pleasant to play. By design you start out with a slow character so you have to improve your combat & other skills then it starts to make more sense & eventually you will be able to tackle & complete the entire game (which also has multiple branches depending on which sub missions you complete there are several different endings). You can also early in the game unlock vehicles & even combine weapons to them creating a zombie killing machine (unless you ignored the story mission to do this). This game has a ridiculous amount of weapon/object combinations (you can even mix certain drinks to give a temp boost to your skills).

A few hours is not enough you need a good 10-15 hours.

Yea i agree, i liked this game a lot at first but it got really hard, i was trying to do every mission and kill every psychopath, but at level 12 or whatever i was, i was failing all the time and got mad.
I think i got to level 25 and then restarted the story to make it easier and do lots of the missions i missed out on, oh and how glad i did! It was so much easier, well not easy really but miles better than before. I finished the game last night on xbox 360 and i was level 45.

Here are some tips which i learned the hard way to discover:

1. save as often as possible, if you run past a restroom go inside and save!

2. rotate the save files, you have 3 save spots so save in all 3 of them just in case u mess up on one you have a backup.

3. if its all going wrong and its impossible to kill a boss or you just run out of time on the main mission, restart the game. You will start off in the safe house again but retain all your skills, levels and combo cards.

4. preparation! always go prepared to any boss fight, if you know your going to meet one find a restaurant and steal descent food like pizza or a cake, and make sure you have built a couple of good weapons, i recommend the bat and nails and also the sledgehammer and axe combo works great. These can all be found close to the safe house.

5. Expect to fail, you wont be able to kill every psychopath or rescue every survivor at first, if you even complete the game from the original save i will be impressed.

This game is hard and can be stressful but it is great fun, if your finding it to hard i really do suggest you choose the restart game option when u die, it was the best thing i ever did and made the game more enjoyable.

I'm still on the first playthrough with a mate. We failed the "cases" at the first possible moment and have just been exploring and killing whilst always having a spare Zombrex to at least keep Katey alive. :D

Will probably be level 15 or so after this one so we'll start again and actually rescue some people at least...then maybe the playthrough after that we'll attempt a proper run!

Anyone have a problem with Xonar DX card and this game. I'm aware of the 16/24Bit 48Khz setting to fix one audio issue, but I've tried all audio settings and the game crashes after the countdown when starting the first mission.

However if I disable my audio card the game works :/

Probably not what you want to hear but I use an Asus Xonar DX and I haven't had a single issue, XP SP3.

PCM 192 KHz, with gaming mode and DS3D enabled

People who are getting low fps (like me). I'm pretty sure its a crossfire (and sli?) problem as there is no profile for the game yet. Turning the CCC a.i off improved framerates for me and that disables 1 gpu.

Its a pretty good game but unless you level up quickly early on the mission baddies are quite tough, always go equipped with a nail bat and lots of food. The lightsaber is pretty awesome :D
