Look at a guide or something if you CBA to discover yourself but there are firework rocket launchers, dynamite crossbows, dynamite bow & arrows, chainsaw bikes, machine gun wheelchairs, electrified rakes & so on etc etc there are literally 100+ weapons in this game most are decent & many are also funny like the toy helicopter with rotor blades, robot bear with LMG, servbot mask with rotor, flaming bullshead..........
Yes it combats beautifully the feeling that killing zombies is a little fun but decidedly meh. Aside from having the gear to make the occasional combo weapon there is very little fun to be had in killing zombies. If it wasn't for the fact you needed to kill them with combo weapons to level up (realistically since saving people gives **** all by comparison) i don't think i'd be bothering half the time.
And what with the 100% static item placements there is absolutely zero variation. The game borders on a memory test, making you remembering where certain items are found for combos, mostly requiring you to find Maintenance rooms because the items are near/around it. But its the 100% static placement that ruins it. Since there is only 1 way to the safe house the start will always go like this:
*Leaves safe house*
oh look i can create a defiler if i want, a spiked bat, a bucket drill and an I.E.D., the same things i've created EVERY DAMN TIME I LEFT HERE.
Then you wander to the doors to the casino with the I.E.D and blow the horde up,
Then you wander through the mall mostly ignoring everything till you reach the music shop and create an Electric Chair and run through to the Silver Strip door killing everything you can before it breaks.
Sure you can stop off at any number of places on the way to create a different weapon but then all your really doing again is walking through a crowd of zombies to get a couple of items, going back to the maintanence room and going back out to kill them, its about as disjointed as you can get.
Then theres searching for Zombrex... the arbitrary 'game over' i believe. I got my first non-quest/sidequest Zombrex and i found it in such a ****ing stupid place. Honestly i was scanning the map looking for LOGICAL places i might find some but no, i infact find it randomly placed somewhere on top of some boxes completely out of the way with absolutely no logical reason for it being there. Which essentially takes all the fun out of finding zombrex too. You can't search for it, you just have to scour every square inch of the map hoping you run into it.
And then theres the Psychos... the most inconsistent thing i have ever seen. Brandon is a pain but i think isn't immune to bullets, don't recall now. Ted went down to my LMG in 2 seconds, ********* was practically immune to it and took FOREVER to kill for NO good reason. Antoine would take the first bullet of the LMG and then become immune to it for a time which was utterly retarded too, leaving me to have to beat him to death with a spiked bat that also took forever. Then there was Snappy who had high health but actually took damage from bullets again.
Theres some fun to be had from the game... like equipping the Rock Band with 2 Merc Assault Rifles and an LMG and creating your own merc army to combat those in Case 3... but it seems to do its best to spoil it for it for you.
