thinking about a new car after xmas, is200/impreza

Eliot repeats

A Toyota Altezza RS200 Yamaha Z BEAMS is the answer to alll the problems

AND is UBER cool

lol.. seriously a 210hp lexus is200 whats not to like?

The name for a start...

What do you guys drive?

A Golf GTI
I drive a Civic Type R
I've got a BMW M3
Mine is a Toyota Altezza RS200 Yamaha Z BEAMS...

:p

well you could leave it at toyota altezza rs200, the rest was me being easy

what i said was the equivalent of saying you have a
Bmw 3 series n70* 335i M-sport edition

*(yeah i dont really care if its the right engine code)

Seriously beams engine = coooollll MR2 Types would be jealous as the mr2 with that engine is quite sort after

What's the point on getting a Lexus with a Toyota badge on it with some sort of girder under the bonnet, presumably with an epic jap tax when the is300 exists?

its 160kg lighter i believe and makes the same power, although i dont know how reliable those stats are lol (the weight i mean, the power is 100% right)
Pretty sure it does more mpgzzz
dunno im out of ideas tbh

EDIT: depending where you look the is300 makes 215 and the rs200 makes 220...

tbh i didnt realise the is300 made that much anyway so i might be a better idea, unless the rs has better suspension etc which i cant find.

Maybe its cheap on insurance??

He wants a WRX as thats what Colin used to rally - well no, Colin didn't drive a WRX he had a WRC which is a different beast.

Well actually Colin McRae had an Impreza 22B which he actually had to buy from Subaru, and used to use it often as a daily runner. The WRC car was what he drove to make a living.
Just thought i'd take the rare oppertunity to correct you :D
I'm sure the OP simply meant the Subaru Impreza in general, which was basically made famous by Colin, even if the first times he really appeared on tv he was driving a Legacy. He could also have been talking about the Colin McRae edition of the Impreza.

The comment that you quote makes clear that Fox was talking about the car that McRae drove for a living, not his personal transport?

Rob a bank, take out a bigger mortgage, pimp the wife, do whatever you can but if you're going for any IS find the money for an 220 IS-F. 0-60, 4.8sec and now at last it has a limited slip dif :D:D:D (Smiles and drifts away..:D:D:D)

£5K will get you a decent 03/04 Blobeye WRX wagon.

IS200 is quite nice IMO - I like the sporty looking dash and the steering wheel is quite a bit smaller than the OE Impreza one.

As for power well it wasn't for me although the wife quite likes them. The boyfriend of one of my wifes mates had one and this friend made a big song and dance over how powerful it was blah blah - showing off as it was more expensive than my UK Turbo.

Wife driving on "private road" and said Lexus appeared behind us. The wife absolutely buried the throttle and rather comprehensively handed the boy his bottom on a plate :)

I'm always thinking of getting another classic and temptation is getting the better of me!

Well I'm only in the idea stage atm, haven't sat in either or read about them yet , was just seeing if they were available in budget.

I also wouldn't mind a classic mini cooper.

You mean the original mini?

I'm shocked at the price of these. I thought of one just as a little knocking around town car and the prices are amazing. I've even noticed theres a fair few coming over from Japan now satisfy demand.

Some chinese lad in town has a green mini with really wide gold minilites and got a turbo engine of some kind. Very odd seeing this little thing hurtle around down with the TSSSSHHHH dump valve. Might be chavvy but on a mini it seems like the best idea ever :D

Could be an E.R.A. Mini Turbo.

These fetch silly money!

If performance is the most important consideration for you then an Impreza Wagon is a good choice. If you're willing to buy a classic then £3k should get you a my99/my00 car http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-for-sale-cars-352/840774-classic-my00-uk-wagon-for-sale.html is a good example, it's an old advert but it shows you what is available. This would leave you with some 'back-up cash' in case something goes wrong, always a good idea when owning a performance car like an Impreza. Depending on how much you value interior quality and comfort you may not like a classic, it's very basic inside but the pay off is that it is an exciting car to drive and has a 'raw' feel to it. As has already been said though running costs are not cheap, in the last year I've spent £4500 on mine and I only cover 6k miles a year! Be prepared for buying new tyres/brake pads/discs every year (expensive if you want quality stuff), regular servicing including changing the oil every 6 months, expensive insurance, 20mpg or less average fuel economy + trying to resist the temptation to mod the car (I thought I would be able to keep it stock when I bought it but that didn't last long!) Unless you're willing to spend the cash to maintain an Impreza properly then you may be best off looking for something a little slower/more sensible.

Helpful info, thank you.

Well if you want to get anal about it

Colin Drove an Impreza WRC car, owned an Impreza 22b, but had nothing to do with the WRX, which was the post Fox was correcting

He had an impreza named after him, but that was the Impreza Turbo Series Mcrae, from the days before the WRX replaced the Turbo in the UK market.

So fox's statement that he drove an impreza WRC doesnt need correcting.

PS £295,000 if yo want one

Well I'm not buying with a specific purpose in mind, just cars I like the look of, then i can narrow it down and research.

It seems you can only shop for cars that are the same speed or size.

Really? You could have mentioned that in your OP, surely?

"Spec me a car that looks nice (I don't know what I want from it)" would have served you better.
