OS X 10.7 - Lion

That would be cool. I'd like to see them try to make it a headline feature in a keynote or TV advert :D

What? The whole philosophy behind Mac adverts is they don't bombard Joe Public with technical stuff. Even I'd never heard of Trim until this thread so I had to go and look it up. :D

I've really wanted to do this with my Aluminium Unibody 13" mac

What hard drives do you need to use ? last time i looked there was all sorts of recommendations and disagreements so i just forgot about it.

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB 7200RPM is what I put in my 15" MacBook Pro. Got it here from OcUK :). One thing to note is that you want the ST9500420AS model (which is what OcUK sell) not the ST9500420ASG model as the G-Force sensor in the G model will conflict with the sensor built into the Mac.

Just had a look on the Seagate site and they now also do the 7200.4 as a 750GB drive ST9750420AS :D, that wasn't out when I got mine.
Also out these days is Seagate's Momentus XT drive, which is 500GB 7200RPM but with 4GB of SLC NAND solid state memory. People seem to reckon that they're about the speed of an SSD for booting up (as that gets loaded into the 4GB NAND) and then everything else is the speed of a normal Momentus 7200RPM drive.

I meant it'd be funny to see them try to big-up something so low-level!

Mine is a late 2008 uMacbook, which I purchased in 2009 off the refurb store... As with MrLOL, I just gave up too but now my 250gb HD is looking kinda small.

I've changed my 320Gb 5400 to a 500Gb 7200 in the Unibody MBPs in about 20 minutes.

How else do you suggest they make it easier!? It's pretty easy now as it is.

As for my predictions:

MacBook Air upgrade, no change to the MBP line (maybe a quiet CTO i7 quad addition, HD upgrades, basically nothing to wait up for!)

I've been correct twice now on the MP and MBP upgrades so im hoping for a 3/3 predictions :p

Also OS X will have TRIM support, or something equivalent to it.

Finder I think is fine, I don't understand why anybody hates it at all.

Damn sight better than W7 thats for sure!

I'm liking the idea of Cult of Mac that the Air might be the first Mac to use an AMD processor. Also could be instant on like the iPad which Gruber seemed to be hinting towards.

I'd also like something to compete with Google Chrome OS (without being specifically made for webapps). Cloud syncing of bookmarks, applications, documents, music, pictures etc. When you buy a new Mac or have more than one, you can pick and choose what gets sync'd to the device.

Not really sure what major features they can add the general public would be excited about.

Back when the 10.7 rumours started, it was because of a job posted on Apple's site looking for a network engineer to 'work on something revolutionary for Mac OS X', all the requirements included all sorts of network protocols and knowledge, so that is probably the best hint we have.

Apple take on cloud computing?

I'd love some blu-ray support though.. but we know how Apple feel about that..

I bought a copy of OSX that upgrades leopard to snow leopard from the apple store

will it do fresh installs as well ?

Yes, there is none of the silly Home Basic/Professional/Upgrade multiple version nonsense you get on Windows. ;)

If it's a late 2008 Unibody then it's even easier to upgrade the hard drive. Just open that little plate on the bottom and it's there for you to see.

Get some small precision screwdrivers and you're away! Not sure what requirements you're talking about. Any standard 2.5" drive fits in there. Using a Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200RPM as i type. May upgrade it when the 640GB Momentus XT comes out.

it was the G-Force sensor thing that people were arguing about last time.

and finding a model that definately didnt have one seemed like too much hassle last time i wasn't confident what i was buying :p

20 MINS !!

What ya do ? take a bath in the middle of changing it ? :D :p

Ha no seriously, changed my SSD in macbook unibody to the cd drive using a £10 bracket from china (works amazing, no idea why optibay are charging stupid amounts) , and put a 1tb drive in the 'normal' harddrive slot

Took about 20 mins ;)

Search in these forums for hard drive clicking and you'll find you can deal with the g-force sensor issue very easily.

I've stuck one of these in a 2010 13" MBP within a week of buying the MBP.

Hitachi HTS725050A9A364

Provides a useful 500GB. The only difference I found between this and the original 250GB (IIRC) its not as silent as the original drive, but still quiet enough for my purposes.

This is what I love about OS X - there are so many apps hidden away in nooks and crannies which do wonderful things.

I'd just be happy with Finder not crapping out if you have to Force Quit the damn thing.

If I could bolt on Windows Explorer into OS X I would also be happy! :D
