6000 series confirmed for next week

That would be extremely defiant.

I would not be certain about it as Nvidia saw this coming months ago.

Has the chip taped out?
How long does it usually take to release a chip with no serious delays once it tapes out?

They saw it coming sure, but they can't do anything about it, at least for the foreseeable short term future.

If Nvidia can't release a new chip within 6 months, it becomes pointless as a few months after release we will be on 28nm.

Im currently using geforce 9800GTX+ ive long been hoping to get the HD5870 when I build my new system. How, i waiting to see what the HD6970 is like since I want my next card to be a real high end one and not mid range. The things im concerned about are obviously the performance and price ( I hope its less than £350) but also the physical size of the card, and whether it will fit in my case (for new build, CM690II Advanced)

Does anyone know how much this is going to drop the 5 series prices roughly if at all? Was hoping to get a 2nd 5870 is the prices drop enough.

^^^
You would be better off waiting for Cayman and then selling the 5870 to put towards that.
Faster single GPU solutions are generally better than two slower ones.

you know its probably gonna be the same issues as the 58xx cards. You wait ages, you finally get the details and the pricing but there is little to no stock available so everyone has to wait another month before they get to see the cards...

Judging by that graph you could be in for a hell of a wait.

Yep, NVIDIA's 2011 Q1 would probably be somewhere 2012 Q1-Q2 at best.
Maybe it's gotta do something with all the 2012 stuff, as in, GTX 580 will draw so much power and generate so much heat that the planet will first shut down and then melt ;-).
