Clio 200 Cup via finance

Yeah but it needs to stop, I've noticed it more and more and it just makes the whole forum look stupid.

Apologies to shifty, I read him wrong there.

As for Janesy, Sure, theres some **** here that needs to stop, but telling some kid to shut it when tbh he has no real reason to warrant his initial comment? Whats so wrong with that? , let alone has he any reason to offer a positive input to a motoring based forum? That said, afaik he's not even driving yet nor has any apparent link to cars - has he got one? has he ever obtained finance? can he offer a subjective opinion of a Renault Clio? Was I so out of line? imo, no.

Bottom line though, my comment was my own opinion, expressed, believe me, by my standards - politely! :o :D

But its the opinion that counts. its what makes a discussion forum, regardless of the subject.

Myself and Maz - and anybody else who takes a particular dislike to a particular members "Input" ultimately forget its what the forums Ignore function is there for! :o:o:o

I pulled over in Southampton somewhat grumpy at the prospect of my friday night jaunt up to Stafford :( , which is where I've ended up, and was in an extremely bad mood when I posted.......

My excuse anyway - and I'm sticking to it. ;)

This looks quote good to me if your in the market to be buying a brand new 200 anyway.

Driving a 172 I do have the natural aspirations to buy a 200, but unfortunately my job ruins it. I drive between 15 and 20k a year, so the excess on milage added to the already massive fuel bill I pay means its a no go really.

Just a side note, having sat in (not driven, for some reason you had to be over 30 to drive a RenaultSport) many of the new Renaults at the World Series, the new Recaros arent that great. They look and feel really cheap and have gone from being supportive to being just rock solid. The speedline wheels are a must have option though.

If your looking to buy a new fun car, and drive 6k or less a year, why not? If you were gonna pay £16k and have a Clio for a few years, why not pay £14k spread over 2 years and have the car for the same time?

Don't know why that's aimed at me, I totally agree!

I took a standard Clio 200 cup for a test drive today and was pleasantly surprised. It accelerated well and the handling reminded me very much of my previous 172's although I couldn't push it anywhere near the limits during the test drive.

After seeing the car in the flesh I have now discounted the Recaros, they would be a nice to have but at £1000 I'm not sure I can justify them. The standard seats looked so much nicer than in the pictures on the Renault website. They are the same in both the FF and Cup and are very supportive. Much better than I expected. The car also seemed far better put together than I remember either of my 172's being. It had a far more solid feel but how that would be after 2 years of ownership I'm unsure.

So I haven't gone ahead with the deal yet, I'm still in 2 minds and need to give it some more thought. If I get one it will be in white with the black speedline alloys. Lovely!

The more I think about it, the more I want to go for the FF with the cup pack rather than the standard cup (plus the speedlines and white paint). It comes with climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, body coloured strips and mirror, headreasts, 60:40 split seats, electric mirrors etc etc. This equals an extra £1000 + £400 for the cup pack. It 'd be looking at a deposit of £1700, monthly payments of £211 and a GFV of £9350. More than I was looking to spend originally.

In comparison to the original deal a cup with speedlines, white paint and manual air con, I'd be paying a deposit of £1899, monthly payments of £199 and a GFV of £8575. The salesman said if I am considering the 200 Cup + air con then it's better value to go with the FF + cup pack and I'm inclined to agree.

This then brings me on to my final point, negotiation. How much do you expect I can negotiate on this deal? The salesman said there is no room for negotiation due to the £3k discount but when I pushed him he said he could ask his manager. I'd only be willing to negotiate when I am ready and willing to proceed so didn't push him too much. Could I possibly expect to get my options on the FF (around £700) discounted plus car mats or am I aiming too high? I have never negotiated with a dealer before, I don't know where to set my expectations.

With a main dealer if you dont ask you dont get, its not his money he dont give a **** he can only say no.

Its not like an indy or a private sale where you might give the bloke the hump, go down there card in hand and ask him for the extras.

How come your deposit isn't £999? Is that because of the extras?

I'd be quite tempted by this myself. Not sure I'd bother too much with options though because I'd probably not keep it after the 2 years. I take it if you don't pay the GFV, you just hand the keys back?

Rather than asking for a cash discount - ask for free tank of fuel, free servicing or alike as this is easier to give than a discount off the price since they are already putting £3k discount off the price.

Correct. You can pay the options up front along with the deposit or add them to the finance (4.4% interest).

I'm still very tempted by this but haven't yet committed myself. With the FF model I'm paying £1000 extra plus £410 for the cup back but considering the air con (manual) for the cup was £565 I'm only effectively paying £845 for the extras the FF comes with.

I'm thinking of trying to get the dealer to pay for the options (£700) but in return I will add the recaros and pay this upfront myself. They hope you trade in after 2 years so this will give them a very desirable car with a lot of the options. Whether I'd be pushing my luck I'm unsure! What do people think my chances would be?

Oh god now even i'm tempted by this :(.

Would definitely hand back the keys after 24 months though :p

The dealer said this was the least favoured option both from Renault's and the client's point of view. Although if the car was to drop in value below the GFV you don't need to pay the shortfall, you can just walk away and the finance company will swallow the cost.

Gotcha!

I'd only really want the seats - when you say cup pack is that suspension bits?. I wouldn't want any electrical gubbins A/C or satnav etc.

I thought I posted this yesterday but my own reservation would that be that after 2 years and £6K you don't own the car - not really. If it has to be new then fair enough its just a 3 year loan of £6K could at least put you in an old gen Trophy which is still a tidy little car and you end up with the car at the end of it.

I also notice that the link only has a certain number of dealerships (all of them miles away from me) - does that mean I can't get the car from my local Renault dealer? Would I be able to get the car serviced at the local dealer? - just emailed Lookers with this question so we'll see what they say. :)

Its also £100 cheaper the insure than my Jeep :D

Correct - the Cup pack is only available on the FF and gives you the same suspension and handling setup of the Cup version. You also get red brembos

I know what you mean about the loan aspect of this deal but Renault hope you build up equity over the 2 years to use as a deposit on a new car. That seems entirely possible based on the current glasses trade in values of a 197.

Not all dealerships are running this deal, lookers seem to be one and also CDG in Crawley has been mentioned. Are there no lookers dealerships near you?

Insurance would pay the finance co i suppose.

Wouldn't they pay out for the 'value' of the car, which is now 2 days old, registered with 1 keeper and had say 10 miles on it.

A second hand Clio with 1 owner and 10 miles is worth a lot less than an unregistered brand new Clio and thus the person would be left with finance.

Isn't this the point of that GAP insurance?

Up to a certain age they just pay for a new car i think.
