What would you put in YOUR MMO game?

I have two type's of MMO I'd like to see. One space based the other set in 14th centuary.

Space

I'd like an Eve model applied and re-hashed that it provides more action when battles occur, applying the economy but also conquest i.e Factions/Guilds can take over planets and set up government. The land based system would be research/development, fortress construction/factories as well as building monuments for your faction with importable model's/designs for flags etc. Crafting would play a huge part as your research/designs can alter and produce unique ships (stats wise) with a chance of discovering rare items etc.

The game would have a screen that would highlight zones/planets that are under faction control and who owns it with goals/focus on seeking alliances/conquest as much as the galactic economy. Should diplomacy fail war can break out and ground combat is a mix of PVP FPS style using your skill's over 'press no.1 to shoot a lightning bolt' the game would be dynamic so it will change as time passes.

Now apply space to 14th cent. Add sailing ships, trade etc.

must contain more meat products. especially pork and beef.

Also i want the ability to make a bright red rape cape.

But.. in all seriousness!
- I'd like a very introcate crafting system, where you really have to go out and get your materials, physically make all of your gear instead of it being given to you through drops etc.

- Along the crafting theme, I'd like the ability to decorate the items i make. After all, its all about your character, and i want mine to look like a bad ass :D

- The ability to group up and take down huge monsters or bosses as end game content. The reward for completing such tasks would just be recognition and ze moniess!. As you'd of build your character up using all of your own crafted equipment etc!

- Easy to use UI and combat system. complicated ones just frustrate me and theres no real need. I want the game to be hard. not the UI.

- Market places for trade. Not an auction house where you can put stuff on and leave it untill somebody buys it. But a busy place with a very realistic feel. Bartering and shouting etc...

- Character has to eat or drink at certain times to stay healthy.. not just for a quick buff or a health burst. So basically your character would have basic needs you'd need to look after too.

- I'd quite like to see an element of fps too.. but with swords, shields and bows ofc! that way it would be much more based upon skill of the player rather than being able to faceroll buttons.

- combat system could be where the fps element comes into play. Maybe with reactive mechanics, for example. X monster is about to do Y attack so you need to do Z to counter it. real-time.. if its possible ^^
I wanna be able to aim, dictate how much power and then shoot stuff with my bow and arrows!

- I want it to look pretty!!! .. im normally not a graphics whore, but it would be nice for it to look awesome if its going to be my dream mmo! ^^

- Above all, i just want it to be extreamly realistic to how life would be in the game.

- Above, Above all... boobs!

I have no idea how any of the above would be implemented, or how it would look. but thats what i'd like to see in an MMO.
crazy crafting, mad fps combat with extensive content and constant updates!

Regarding old mmorpgs, what about them exactly made them better than games like wow, in terms of features and functionality? I don't believe there's much missing from today's mmo that you had in older games. I think it's more to do with the communities and the way they play the game. It's the community that shapes an mmo.

My ideal MMo exactly, you could also add a bit of rts element in the way of colony building and planetary battles. I think Eve is sort if heading this way in the future with the recently introduced Planetary Interaction.

As much as I love Eve, I think it could be improved better for new players. Maybe the ship controls could have more options such auto-strafe or evassive manouvers buttons. Hit the button and the ship performs flight in a preset pattern.

Fact is that WOW has 12 million active subs because it does what people want it to do.

For me WAR was a brilliant game problem with it was not so much the game but the player base.

I think having 3 different starting areas was a mistake I can see the purpose to avoid everyone bunching up on the same place but it simply didn't work everyone still bunched up in the same place or worse still moved to another location in the tier and started again. End game was there however unlike the FPS gamers who are happy to play the one map for 5 hours straight MMO players have to always have a level, better gear etc.

I notice this creeping into FPS games as well. I played MOH:AA for 3 years on 4 Objective maps 5v5 on servers. Had some fantastic nights. Next night I played same maps, same weapons etc difference was I was playing different players and it was organised.

This is where WAR fell down. There was simply no organisation therefore in the MMO chaos rained people got bored simply logged off or started playing in the scenarios (which killed the game imho...)

So for me I would have WAR style game but will a lot less advancement (perhaps 10 levels) more skill based (have to be facing an opponent, spells have to be targeted like FPS games) much less AOE spells. Better objectives, that can be completed in 2-3 hours instead of 2-3 days and heavy GM involvement per server. (All it would take is to pay someone who already likes the game a small stipend and you'd have 100s willing to do so...)

I was there for Kruul in WOW pre TBC and it was fantastic and very much most fun I've had on any MMO I also liked the barrens in WOW when there were raids so much fun open PVP.

As has been said, just release Planetside as it was before Core Combat, though with some of the later patches added in, things like the Phantasm, new CE and so on.

That's the game I've enjoyed more than any other. Several continents pop-locked, huge battles for continents with so many different playstyles. Pretty much all the weapons had their uses... except maybe the punisher. Every empire was properly unique, though damn the vanu for using weird energy ammo that I couldn't pull from a terminal, my locker was always full of VS ammo and spikers :3

Quite a lot of features from old MMOs are missing from todays.

Take for example something like UO from 1997 and WoW from today. Even straight forward basics like being able to Dye your armour, cant do it in WoW, could in UO 13 years ago. Let alone that in UO you could also dye weapons and furniture, which was player crafting furniture using the carpentry , stone masonry etc skills which you then placed in your player built house..all features missing from WoW.

Plus you had personal ships to travel the seas on , with their own cargo vault for storage, another thing missing from WoW.

Plus you had NPC vendors which you placed at your house, the NPC would stand there and you could sell items on him to people passing by your house, getting your house a reputation on the server for quality items/prices. Missing from WoW and replaced by an AH.

Thats just to name a few things which were in one old mmo in comparison to one new mmo.

Hopefully my favorite mmo will be made

sadly, I dont think it will be finished though :\.

I love exploration!

I would like a mmo that gives you your time back when you finished. I quit wow about 6 months ago when i killed LK heroic... I had literally spent over 1 year of game time on that game. Considering I spent most of that time needing to sleep and work thats probably 3 years of all your spare time used up. I'd like that back, or maybe just get £1.00 an hour for my efforts that would clear all my debts!

free to play.

I would just like a mmo where i can pay by the hour, not the day, week, month, just the hour.

Then i can see if i like it or not and not just waste my moneys.

and if i do like it i can subscribe monthly, after all f2p goes both ways doesnt it?? (apart from a monthy subb which i like

long story short f2p doesnt work, and stop using it as a model basis!

rant over grrrr.

allso i would put in a kingtiger :)

As many people have said my fave MMOs have all been SOE games that have been broken by "upgrades"
Plantside was amazing fun and way ahead of its time i know BFRs were over powered but tbh that could be dealt with using tactics
SWG started out great but we all know how that ended. I honestly think they should have stayed pre CU, nerfed the hell out of combat medics and made jedis still have permadeath and then the game would have been perfect. I actually enjoyed the game more when "super buffs" were rare and there was not transport so walking around hunting rancors was pretty darn tough.

EQ2 I actually really liked as well but Guild drama killed that for me.

A planetside type game set in a "current" enviroment might be cool but i think one of the things that made PS work was weapon balance rock/paper/scissors gameplay and maye that need the futuristic style to be practical.

Surely if you are paying by the hour then its not free to play??

Why not just do a 2 week trial or such, that way it doesnt cost anything at all and you can see if you like it or not.

We need a new Planetside! No game has ever beaten the rush of a 3 galaxy drop over a heavily defended enemy base, the 15-20 tanks we used to get together for an armour rush, or sat near a door in a MAX suit, desperately trying to stop the enemy taking the control console of a base. Good times, pity the game's gone down the pooer =(

SWG, how it used to be before they ruined it with Jedi's crossed with the combat from Planetside.

Every time I think about how many great moments I had in those two games it makes me sad that they both went south so quickly. :(
