Indeed, I'm in New York!
But only just... there was a signal failure on the District Line this morning which delayed me over an hour. Despite running to the terminal I missed check in by 10 minutes, though they got me in, then I pushed in front of the queue at security and ran to the departure gate. It was bloody miles away
The flight was fairly uneventful. Watched Karate Kid and was so tired I kept mistaking Jackie Chan for Ken Hom, tried to go for a pee during some fairly cool turbulence, which required one hand to steady the out of control stream, one hand on the wall and head wedged against the side. What? I'd already begun, and that sweet feeling of relief and the challenge of the moment got the better of me
Then I got lost on the New York subway. I think I was secretly hoping to get mugged by NYC thugs, but everyone seemed to be more scared of me than I was of them. London instincts kicking in I guess, but everyone I've spoken to so far has been much friendlier than Londoners.
I finally popped up somewhere near the Empire State building which was convenient because I'm staying closeby. Short walk later and here I am.
Time for a nap. Post again soon
