Wierd one this......Kids drawing on their walls with mums permission!!!??
Ive just been told by my step daughter (11 years old) that mum had said its ok to write her name on the wall in her bedroom in Grafeeti type letters.

Ive just had a row with mum and said thats unacceptable and i dont want the step daughter drawing on the walls. I said if she wants to draw then put it to paper and stick the paper up.

The missus is insisting its the "in thing" at the moment? Am i missing some sort of craze here or something?

I certainly dont want to encourage this behavior!

Im only 31 and have certainly never heard of kids drawing grafeeti on there own walls. Posters yes but nothing else.

I certainly dont mind a few posters or pictures but not drawing or letters on the actual paint work

I find it very trampy or i completely old fashioned here.???

I'm a teen and have never wanted to do it, the only people I know that do it are tear away chavs :p, it is not the in thing at all.

Don't see a problem myself, as long as it's in their own room and not all over the house - nothing wrong with self expression. It's easy enough to paint over it if needed.
Perhaps you could paint a section of her wall with that special chalkboard paint and get her to do her 'art' there?

If you can teach her that it's in her room only that it's ok then what's the problem. A lick of paint and it's gone.

However, I'd be questioning where she gets the opinion that it's the 'in'' thing.

hmm two views one for and one not.

TBH i went mental at mum for encouraging her to draw on walls. Surely this encourages the behavior?

Whats the matter with a art book to express your self?

just suggested the black board paint idea and apparently that would look crap. I thought that was a good half way meeting point.

TBH im fuming that mum told an 11 year old its ok to grafeeti on walls and thats its the in thing.

I bet mum read it on mumsnet. Those lasses get up to all kinds of weird shizzle on there.

She probably thinks it's acceptable because she's not the one who will have to repaint it, or even painted it in the first place!

If you block the blackboard paint in with some wood it might look better, be more of a feature as oppose to just a black blob in the middle of the wall. It's quite expensive though, but can look good when done like that. Also good for homework help ;)

Whos gonna be the one keeping the lick of paint though?

I really cant see anyone that would want this is there house.

To me its a ludicrous idea.

I used to get told off if i used sellatape rather than blue tack for my posters!!

I think it's important to teach kids to take care of things - so I'd disallow it.

But you may take the stance that it doesn't hurt anyone and therefore doesn't matter.

Mum should have asked you first though.

exactly what i thought.

apart from mum should have asked me first though. Normally either one of our decisions is the same.

I think the girl knew it was wrong as she came and asked me before doing it.

Not acceptable. Posters and up on the wall, or if she has an artistic inclination and wants to get into art, why not strip a wall back to bare plaster, whitewash it, and use it as a mural canvas for her to indulge to her heart's content?

The girl gives it a paint. Simple.

No different to having posters up or stuff like that if it is controlled.

i mean i used to get slapped when i was youngster for drawing on the walls when i was like 5........and that was just a little line on the skirting lol
