Do different kinds of drink get you different kinds of drunk?

Whenever i get drunk on Jagermeister It ends up being an interesting night :) Whereas when i get drunk on Whiskey it tends to be more.. mellow. I guess it must be a chemical reaction in the drink itself? Either that as a psychological thing, with associating emotions and actions with the taste. *shrug*

Most likely because you hammer the Jagers, and drink whiskey mixed, and slower.

Generally get the same type of durnk, but wine will give me a more unpleasant following day than anything else by a mile :(

Stella really messes with my head, i get major headaches off the stuff.

The worst of them all is absinthe, bad bad bad drink made me feel really horrible, i didn't see any green fairies or pink elephants, but it did mess me up a bit, horrible stuff.

Not anymore it doesn't.

Isn't that dependant on where you source it from though ?

I definitely get a different kind of drunkenness from different drinks, so much so that I've stopped having a few of them. The one at the front of my mind being Stella, got memory loss and woke up with a swollen and broken hand (didn't confirm it was broken for a few weeks mind). :/

Absinthe is an awesome drink. It gives me an incredible feeling of slowness/mellow. I've never had more than a few shots worth though.

Red wine I can drink until the bottles are empty and become quite the conversationalist after a good bit. Beer depends on who I'm with, but has ended up in hilarity ranging from shopping trolley hurling to the famous game of catch the marrow, sprain the foot, or pull your mate out of the river. Beer and a day long BBQ on a campsite is my favourite combination by far.

Mix drinks, = suddenly get to a point where I feel ill, shortly followed by puking up

Stay on Cider = get *******, have a good time, remember everything but feel awful in the morning.

Vodka = feel OK on the night, think I'm drunk but in control, wake up in the morningh wondering how the hell I got where I am, to be informed by buddies some weird stuff went on I cannot remember, can't remember half the pubs we went in. Feel wide awake in the morning only to realise about midday that I was actually still wasted... then the hangover kicks in!!

I seem to be safest sticking to beer or whisky alone.

Mixing drinks is lethal. Red wine, beer and whisky on the same night = DOOM...

Wormwood was never banned in this country. It just depends on which absinthe you get... http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-163.aspx

http://www.hi-spirits.co.uk/cgi-bin/trolleyed_public.cgi?action=showprod_W0004 (this one refers to ingredients).

The active ingredient, thujone, which supposedly gives you the psychedelic effect is restricted to very low levels though and governed by the EU. It's fair to say that the levels are a lot lower than of previous times and absinthe doesn't really have the same psychedelic effect that it used too, or at least I've never seen any which can suggest otherwise.

35ppm is the legal limit and that's supposedly enought to have an effect. I believe it because I felt a different effect to drunkenness when I last had Absinthe -several years ago.

I have no idea what that strength was but I'm assuming that it would have been around 10-35ppm.

A quick google tells me that Absinthe makers claim 10ppm+ has an effect - but I suppose they would wouldn't they. 10ppm is the legal limit in a few other countries.

You sound like a right bundle of laughs to go drinking with :-/

I dont try to mix my drinks as i know i wud regret it lol
I usually drink Malibu and orange then go onto Jagerbombs which get me really drunk i have loads of them and of cos they contain energy drink so i feel quite Hyper as well. then when i do feel canny drunk i may have 2 or 3 jagermisters (Straight).... i think peoples behaviour changes depending on what mood they are in when they go out.. if i go out really happy then i remain happy and drunk if i went out feeling sad/down etc drink wud make me feel more sad and unhappy!!!! depends on the person really

I guess it's all about the person really isn't it? And some of it may be in the head (as some drunkenness is, I believe) - if you're told it's going to give you a trip you may kid yourself into having a small one. Some googling suggests that the psychedelic effects were generally largely exaggerated... Though, I've never tried it so I'm just speculating.

I'd be interested to try some of the stuff that has a certified 'reasonable' level in and see if I get any psychedelic effects. I've only had 'non-wormwood' absinthe (or at least, it never said anything about it on the bottle) and the only thing it resulted in doing was getting me quite drunk and staining all our plastic cups with that telltale absinthe taste/smell!

Get some, and I'll come round? :D

Well I can't report seeing pixies or anything on Absinthe. Was just the next thing after a bunch of different flavoured vodkas and then...

Yes, although scientifically it shouldn't. Alcohol is alcohol!

Stella Artois always makes me super aggressive, yet Foster's or Vodka/Red Bull always keeps me mellow. Spirits generally just daze me into a stupor.
