Wait, I thought they said they were trialling 10MB upload speed for 50MB customers????

100MB download 10MB upload is rubbish but i suppose it's better than nothing, i'll definitely be getting it.

I don't know what they are trialing but they have annouced that they are going to up everyones upload to 10% of their download. so 5Mb for 50Mb users, 2Mb for 20Mb users etc..

home users dont really need 100mbit, but its always "up to 100Mbit", depending on your location.

Cable is less sensitive than crappy ADSL to location though. 'Up to 100Mb' with Virgin Media will see 95% of that speed all the time almost wherever you are. Whereas with ADSL you could be paying for 8Mbps and receiving 3!

And I think the ADSL providers know this, hence why it's generally a lot cheaper. VDSL will level the playing field somewhat. When you have 40Mbps in the case of BT Infinity or 100Mbps courtesy of Virgin Media available over the 'last mile' then the core network becomes a lot more important. It will be interesting to see if VM are competent enough to deliver these speeds.

I paid £7 more to go from 20Mb to 50Mb, now it's an extra £7 to go from ?

Lucky because I tried the same thing and never got that. Virgin wanted £30 pounds more for the 50MB which is stupid.

100Mb down / 10Mb up - incredible stuff, can't wait

Finally something worth mentioning, can't stand 768 kbps any longer.

With the cost of replacing all the modems with 50mbit ones, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Tbh I think they will get rid of the 10Mb service. Doesn't seem like much point in it now. Hopefully the price will come down, or at least 10Mb customers get a free upgrade.

I think am on a (edit out 20) 10 Mbps line, no point me going for a 100Mbps and its been lagging badly this last few months.

Its normal rather good but every few years I go through a short patch of high lag and generaly bad service. Getting them to put it right is a right pain and I don't have the time to chase them up, as I have more pressing worrys at the moment.

Had the same for the past few weeks... quite sure its due to the network upgrades going on. Wait a while longer and keep a timelog of your attenuation frequencies for downstream/upstream for an engineer to track errors if you do need one.

Just got off the phone with a guy at VM, he said that it was 'very likely' they would do a deal for existing customers on 50Mbit as they have already pid for a modem recently. So maybe there is hope for us after all .

I just spoken to guy at VM. If you already with 50Mb modem, and want to upgrade to 100Mb when it available in your area, you will have an option:

1) keep 50Mb modem but already had N wireless router and not in use and they will only charge you activation fee and no need for techicial man to come out to you.

2) keep 50Mb modem but already had N wireless router and will be in use then you will need a brand new superhub to support 100Mb wireless and will be activation fee only.

3) Want a new superhub to replaced 50Mb modem, there will be installation charge and activation fee plus a renewal of 12 months contract applied.

The 12 months contract will be applied only if you request a brand new superhub modem for all 50Mb customers who already owe a 50Mb modem. And also for customers who already on 10Mb or 20Mb will be upgrade to 100Mb as a new 12 months contract with full charge of both installation and activation fee with a new superhub for those who are on 10Mb / 20Mb customers.

So, if you are 50Mb customers who had 50Mb modem but never use N wireless router and you can upgrade to 100Mb with just a one off fee of activation fee and it all done at their end without any tech guy coming out and will not be in a renewal 12 months contract. (only for 50Mb customers)
