Pokémon - why is it so popular?

Pokemon & Zelda on my original gameboy (and a few dozen batteries) made trips on the train down South to visit my gran actually passable.

Thank you Pokemon.

Played when I was a young 'un and still play now :D

Quite a few of my friends play (and we often play at the pub, which draws tonnes of people watching over our shoulders)

Also, often have "pokemon" days with a few friends, all get together, play on the games (old and new) and watch a few pokemon dvd's and just eat sweets. So geeky :(

pokemon the game is awesome with great longevity... good jrpg?

also it taps into that pet psyche, like people want a pet cat... except if you could train it up to be the ultimate pet cat who foought other peoples pet cats and dogs and u could train it like Solar Beam and evolve it into a Meowth or soemthing cool...

Many things.

To compete, achieve, escape, enjoy or simple fun. :)

I think it is the fantasy aspect and us humans have a really strong desire to have pets.

It was amazing, I was a bit obsessed at the time lol, I recently downloaded 8 series of the episodes, but they do seem to get a bit boring after the first 1 or 2 series, you just come to the conclusion Ash is bit of a douche bag.

I played Pokemon blue and yellow to death, and played as Pikachu in the original Super Smash Brothers where he was by far the best character if you used him well, I think both games after have watered his powers down quite a bit and Pichu was always useless.

Played Silver on an emulator for a while, but I think it eventually freaked out… I might have to have a look what’s on the Wii Store.

I also purchased Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium but ended up taking it back because it was just rubbish to be fair, the genre could defiantly be developed into something with mass market online / RPG appeal on the WII maybe, but I don’t know if Nintendo have the vision or they still consider it a big enough franchise over here.

I also got into full on Dealing in Cards at the time, buying stacks of kids cards for cash from school and selling them on ebid where there was a massive market for them at the time.. people buying them for their kids and stuff, had money turning up in the post all the time from people and made quite a bit of money to say I was only 15 or something.

Due to this and buying them myself I have quite a few really rare cards, from limited edition runs that were never in the UK or in very small quantities to first edition stuff.
Could do with digging them out, I haven't seen them in ages.
