5870 vs Metro 2033

I can confirm I have every single setting turned on in DX 11!

I have Antialising set to AAA and AF set to 16x

Physx is off, but Depth of field and tesselation are on!

This game is running like a dream! Runs better than Crysis warhead!

I am not having you on, game is not demanding at all!

The 2gb vram must be playing its part!

Just to confirm settings:

Res: 1920x1200
Quality: Very High
Dx version: 11 (Depth of Feild = on, Tesselation = on)
Antialising: AAA
AF: 16x

Ok after a bit more of a play through, I can see that the frame rate is higher and lower in certain areas, even if its those areas have similar environments.

I wacked the Antialising to MSAA and it started lagging a bit! Only a bit, generally when you quickly pan around looking, it was a little bit stuttery. In all honesty, you could still play the game with all the settings turned on, and the stutter wouldnt be a deal braker.

However, as I was perfectly happy before I tried the MSAA I went back to AAA, just tto help the frame rate. Iv also gone back to AFx4 as was still a little bit jerky.

There isnt any difference between 4x and 16x AF.

The MSAA look good. But the game still looks great using AAA, and Iv read thats what you should use if you have an ATI card, so thats what il keep.

But for a single card, and 2nd generation cpu I think my Pc is doing just fine.

So just to confirm settings:

Res: 1920x1200
Quality: Very High
Dx version: 11 (Depth of Feild = on, Tesselation = on)
Antialising: AAA
AF: 4x

Hmm maybe Il have a play with turning depth of field off (as you guys say it is a fps killer whilst offering little) and turn MSAA on...

I can confirm having very similar results using a HD6870 +i5 760 @4ghz using the same settings, I'd post FPS but don't know how to. All in all the games runs smooth for the biggest portion of the game.

last image, posted this one becuse well its funny as hell when you electrocute yourself lol

I dont understand what that electric charger thing does? I charge it up when it goes low, but I m not sure why.

Also the elctric one shoot kill weapon, I dont understand that either. Its got ammo loads of it, but certain foes it refuses to shoot. Just beeps at me!

There are a few parts of this game that are simply jaw dropping. Like no other graphics in any other game. The special effects and lighting are 10/10... but the other bits the more mundane bits, honestly look very 'source engine' but yet the source engine on hardware of the time ran so well.

I think this game could have been better optimised. But still some of the bits in this game, make it worth buying just to see how good games can be graphically!

It charges your headlight when it runs very low you can only see with the light about 3 feet in front of you with it fully charged you can see much much further

try it let it run low then select it and turn your headlight on and pump away and you can see the light getting stronger and you can see much further away.

Was looking at some benchmarks for crossfired 5870 2gb cards.

In certain games they score double the fps as 2x 5870 1gb cards.

The lack of vram obviously is a bottleneck in some circumstances.

If you look at the two screen shoots above. One looks scource engine crisp and sharp the other is blurry and dull. The source engine type parts run better than other environments..

Download, install, run, have little yellow FPS counter in corner of your choice. Sad as it is I can't live without it now :) I want to know exactly how smooth my game i :). [/sad]

you do realise the blurry images are the parts where you wear your gas Mask right, and as so gives the effect of iced up glass...

and the reason these areas task the GPU greater than the others is that the climate is being replicated so it you have icey air/light effects. whereas when your just in the normal areas/tunnels its all very easy on the GPU in comparison

Seems there are two ways to play this game for the best graphics whilst trying to maintain a good fps.

One is to have everything turned on except DOF with AAA instead of MSAA

Or two, everything turned on but with overall settings at high instead of very high again using AAA instead of MSAA.

@ GangsterSte & opethdisciple ...

How is your experience with games like Crysis and the STALKER's ? What resolution and settings can you comfortably run them on?

Why aren't people running the in game benchmark?

Anyway, on my gtx470 in SLI, even they are crippled on max settings with DOF and 4xMSAA.

Average fps of 53 is okay but in areas in the benchmark, it slows down to 8 fps  Max was 116 fps from memory.

Just to show how much the load on the graphics card varies I did a run with DOF off and AAA selected and I get 119 average with a max fps of 434  but it still drops to the low 30's in some areas.

Can't really confirm on games like Crysis and stalker. However, I have previously run Metro 2033 with a 1055T overclocked @ 3.80 and 4ghz, with a 768 OCuK value card, overclocked to 850mhz. Now, comparing this spec with my i5760 at 4ghz, with a 6870 is literally night and day. The performance difference is hugely noticable, but then again so is the price lol. I guess that is the trade off we have to pay.

All in all, very happy with my 6870 purchase (overclocked at roughly 8-10%).
