Hardocp review mlaa

To be fair Raven mate you are coming across like a right fanboi ;)

Why because I'm upsetting AMD fans by pointing out MLAA significantly reduces IQ? and showing this.

"as you can clearly see now that the ATI cards are smooth compared to nvidia, despite running at a lower framerate. the nvidia cards stutter like crazy and negates the high frame rate readings these cards are able to display."

Speaking of trolls, who's this

get a grip you lot.

nobody in this thread has claimed MSAA is better than 32x TRAA so dont use that excuse. the majority of people accept MSAA for what it is - something that we didnt have before, a happy medium between no AA and proper AA. It is not the next best thing, it is not the second coming of Christ.

Stop bringing up the sodding 'fanboy' arguments as an excuse to keep banging on about how good MSAA isnt and stick to the facts and no that doesnt mean pointing out how blurry a texture is ad infinitum

It's a good feature for the lower end cards that can't handle 4x MSAA at decent settings but why would anyone pay in excess of £200 to play games with less definition?

I don't think it matters what side of the fence you sit on, it does make the image look a bit crap!
Someone else posted screenies a few days ago with HL2. The MLAA one looked terrible especially the cables on the telegraph poles.
I'm not saying it doesn't have its uses as it can be used to provide AA on dreferred rendering titles.

No ones bashing it... which is the mistake certain people are making... we are just saying its not the next MSAA as some people are trying to make out...
I don't think anyone has said that MLAA is a replacement for MSAA have they? If they have then feel free to point me towards their post. :)

Actually 2 people who've posted in this thread have made such claims in another related thread and their posts here are referring to that thread;

"The anti MLAA brigade also known as "Nvidia fanboys unite" never used the feature"

Which is where some of this stems from.

in all seriousness Rroff, no it isnt. it started with people complaining about the MLAA blurring textures, those people mostly being known owners of nvidia cards on this forum. obviously the better informed can see the benefits and drawbacks of MLAA as you can yourself, other people can't. Strangely enough, people with ATi cards were a lot quicker to accept that MLAA has its uses - strange that? ;)

In fairness Raven, what you're actually doing is attacking the opinions of people who might genuinely find the IQ better using MLAA. By posting images and saying something along the lines of "this obviously isn't better" is hardly constructive, just a clash of opinion.

Its hardly opinion when on a quantifiable technical level it does degrade the image quality to a level that is noticeable to the average human.

The problem is people are seeing the posts made by raven and probably myself as an attack on AMD/ATI when the truth is its in response to a small number of people who are trumping up MLAA as the next coming when its anything but.

In fairness the OP linked to those images, I'm just analyzing them.

Forced 32x TRAA works on mass effect 1/2 fine - and I get a constant ~60+fps even at stock on my GTX470.

IIRC you can rename the mass effect exes on ATI to get AA working, I can't remember which game exe names to use tho off hand might have been whatever the exe name for just cause 2 is.

not the steam version you couldnt. getting AA to work involved renaming the exe, which sent steam up the wall

^^^

frustratingly, no. couldnt be done. but anyway it was only an example of a game that i couldnt use AA on, so any form of it is welcome and thanks to the consoletastic textures, it actually works very will On the ME games so me = happy.

MLAA has it's uses. I'd like to what can be done if the settings were opened up though, maybe give us one or two settings we can alter.
