Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Lol, you'd know because it wouldn't connect. Product code changes without you knowing though and is quite common. Can end up set to KOR which is a null code, so no Kies updates etc.

Or use Root Explorer, either way you'll need to root it first for su rights.

Snip does it matter if your product code has chnaged? Imei number is fine and when I use product check app it says my back one is the uk tmobile one which is correct. I have backed up EFS folder but not before my code chaanged to kor:(

What are yhe consequences of having a kor code apart from no kies updates?

Not much really, apart from Kies not downloading any updates. You won't get the inbuilt APN's for your country/network etc. IMEI is the killer. You can hex edit files to restore the product code, also you may find if you look for the backup files .nv_data.bak & nv_data.bak.md5. If they're there and older than the update you flashed then its as simple as deleting the modified ones. Phone will build new ones from the backups. Tbh I only bother restoring my product code (O2U) to keep the O2 code just in case I ever flash the stock firmware back on for warranty reasons.

Couldn't you just copy and rename the backup file and
Firstly deleting the altered file?
Just seems easier.would that work?

I have the backups of my original product code but if its only kies updates (which have never worked on my phone out of the box) then i'll just leave it be!

Yeah it's no big deal.
What are peoples backup methods? I've got Titanium Backup for apps, Kies for contacts, Root Explorer for /efs folder stuff. Not sure about SMS, bookmarks and anything else, oh and angry birds save game data!
thing with Titanium and root explorer is they save to internal SD card and I wasn't to factory reset which wipes that.
Thanks for any help

Been playing with Mybackup Pro. Pretty good actually, does all the apps in one go and their data, also all the MMS SMS etc.

I updated via keys yesterday to JPO using the reg hack. It changed my product code to KOR, but in this case, it isn't modifying the efs files. When you upgrade, it installs a multi CSC (i.e. multi localisation) ROM, and it sets the default CSC, and hence product code, to KOR. You can choose the correct CSC (mine was CPW, but you could just choose XEU for default European phone). When you do that, your product code changes back. Only thing to note, DOING THIS WILL TOTALLY WIPE THE PHONE AGAIN, so back up anything you need beforehand:

To change, go to the dialer and type:

*#272*IMEI#

where IMEI is your phones IMEI (this can be found on the box you got the phone in, or in the kies registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Keis\DeviceDB\2 (the last number may be different for your PC). and look in the key called DEVCONINFO

Plug the phone in to charge like normal last night. Woke up this morning as I didnt hear my alarm.

The phone was off, and very very HOT. Took the back off and battery out. When it cooled down. I plugged it back in and turned it on. Booted up fine. BUT I can make or receive calls, send text.

Off to my local voda phone shop.

my mate did his last night but it now wont boot past the galaxy s logo, and just randoly vibrates, any ideas ?

When i did mine last night, it rebooted and stopped on the Galaxy S logo screen for about 10 minutes before it turned on as normal. I was a little worried after reading several people having problems. But decided to leave it, in the hope it was just configuring itself.

All seems fine now.

Boot in to recovery mode and do a system reset and clear cache. Often clears that problem. If you do upgrade it can take an age to get past the big S the first time, just leave it awhile to be sure its completed installing.

it was left on all night, his wont reboot into recovery using the 3 button method, and i could not get pc suit to reboot it either, so its been sent back for fixing in stead.

Ok...just updated mine to JPO...not!....stuck on the s logo and vibrating every minute or so. Just got off the phone to o2 and its a known problem to them and they are doing a doorstep swap on monday.

Regarding the "stuck on the galaxy S loading screen"...boot the phone into recovery mode and do a factory reset. The phone will boot up fine with the new firmware after.

Also, does anyone know if you can purchase a in-line remote(which I can use any headset with) to control music for the SGS? Would be really handy for me on the train. I already had an old phillips one which I tried with the SGS but it didn't work.

Using PlayerPro BTW.
