how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

I know how to craft them, hence why I said I don't have enough spare items to make them :p

I had all the achievements before the random drop update and haven't had the time to play much since. I despise the levelling up system in the recent CoD games and things like this kinda ruin it if you don't have much free time to play.

Ah, right!

Hmm, not sure what you can do... appeal to the overwhelming generosity if OcUK and hope someone gives you want you want? :p

All you can realistically do is join an idle server overnight once or twice a week till you hit the max item cap i think... which is a little lame.

Hey guys,

I bought the game and it's HERE NOW! Quick question though, should I rip the discs to ISO so I can install them later with ease (reformat)? Also as a totally new person to Team Fortress what do you guys suggest I do?

Fire up the steam client, register the serial number with the game and just let steam download the complete game, it's been HEAVILY updated since release.

Try and get a rounding of each class. Or better yet check the TF2 forum on steam and view each individual class, they should have user written guides about how to play each class somewhere in each subforum. Then its just a case of getting better with the ones you prefer, though knowing the basics of each is worthwhile.

So no need to rip the discs as ISOs? Yeah I noticed with 4 GB left to download! Is an easier way to sort of do this?

So no practical way; like a training level/map or a newbie server?

There is a training mode which teaches you the very basics, but you will just have to find a server you like, become a regular and get to know the people on it. I can 100% recommend UKCS servers

Well the practical way is just playing it but it helps to have at least read through the strategy pages of the TF2 wiki to some of what you should be trying to do with each class. I've not really played TF2 since before the random drop updates began and before i didn't play it much either, so i've spent the last 2 weeks getting the milestone achievements for Soldier, Demo, Engineer, Sniper, Heavy and Spy for the free weapons (i'm just missing some Medic achievements now but they're a pita).

It gave me enough time to figure out which classes i don't like that much and which i'd play more. Can't say i'm a fan of scout given that my scattergun always seems to do **** all damage no matter what distance i am from the enemy whereas enemies kill me in 1 or 2 shots... that and its just too frantic. I'm liking Spy atm so i want a Familiar Fez :p

Nah, you can use the disc as a coaster now if you like :p
Steam basically deals with all the downloading and patching of games. It automatically patches it when new content is added, and if you decide to uninstall it, or format your hard drive, you can just install Steam again, and TF2 will be in your game list, right click it and install.

At release, there would have been more point to using the DVD to install, as there wouldn't have been much changed, but the game has been out for three years now, and hugely changed in that time, so it'll be faster just to download all the new files rather than install the old ones and have to overwrite them all anyway :p

As for learning how to play classes, the best way is to just play them. The training mode should give you the very basics (Though I've not actually played it), but if you've played any FPSs before, most of it should be fairly obvious.

The TF2 wiki has tons of info, click on the classes and it'll show you the stats, how best to play them and so on, to help you pick out where to start. Also check out the Meet the... videos :p

Maybe you guys should try getting into competitive TF2 if you don't want to use the new weapons? Since a lot of the weapons are banned in competitive play. I absolutely love watching competiitve 6v6 games. The European TF2 League has just started, so all of Europe's top teams are playing a lot and you can watch their games via source tv. I find 6v6 more fun than 24-28 player random mayhem anyway. In public servers where it's just about having fun, all the new weapons really don't matter to me. They add variety and fun elements to the game, I'm not that bothered if they don't fit with Valve's original plan for the game. I'm happy with sticking to competitive play for the "serious" games and public servers for complete madness with insane weapons.

Spent some time messing around with server tags to make it easier for me to find games I'll enjoy! Blacklisted all saigns servers (they have premium features available to people who pay which unbalance the game), all achievement servers, and all nocrits and nodmgspread servers, as I prefer that element to be there in games I play, just because XD

1278 servers blacklisted now :3

Anybody else been enjoying the halloween map? Just get into your comfort zone, then "you're it" and some bloody great ghost with an axe start huntings you on the map! Mentalness :D

Tbh i've had enough of that map. You go forwards, an enemy shoots a pumpkin that spawned behind you, dead. You go back, the HHH appears from nowhere and cuts your head off. You go back, a candy powered Soldier blows you to pieces. You go back, the HHH kills you again. Unless you're on it to play Scout and get presents its such a bad map and the HHH spawns that ****ing often and takes so long to kill its even worse than 2fort.

Only found the halloween map last night, awesome.

How many other developers would constantly add this much free stuff and even do seasonal themed updates?

You would remember they did that for the Christmas themed map in Cod4. Fat chance they will do that again though.

Ahh, not played CoD, Valve keep supplying the goods though.

Apart from that ****ing scout pistol!

I really don't see how you guys have a problem with the new shortstop lol. A scout with good aim is just as annoying when using the scattergun. :p

If not more so.

Shortstop seems to deal consistently more damage from distance whereas the Scattergun needs to be closer, fire rate is definitely better too... as is accuracy.

Is there any way to recognise a server with ridiculous preimium accounts before you get on them? Think i need to blacklist the nightteam servers after some Scout turned up spamming Mad Milk on everything in sight...

Im sure this question has been asked before, so apologies for repeating...

But is there any way anyone who purhased TF2 when it was first released have any argument for a refund as it is now a completely different game, or is this covered in the License agreement?
