AMD HD6970 guaranteed to beat GTX580, according to sources

Because I have been a member of this forum long enough to know exactly how a certain segment will react, so did the OP who knew exactly what he was doing.

I was asking in what way you understand why they get bothered by it.

Exactly. All I can say this thread is going the way exactly as he's expecting it to- people pointing fingers at each other and start arguing over nothing.

Yes, how dare he use the headline of the article he was linking as his thread title... HOW DARE HE!

Are you being deliberately obtuse? If you wish to believe that no attempt to raise a response from the Nvidia defence force was intended then fair enough. Personally I think it was a worthy troll title, and he got exactly the reaction that he hoped for. Perhaps I am giving too much credit.

"Today’s report included a lot of information pertaining to the upcoming Radeon HD 6970 launch.
We will decode and interpret the report later tonight, but for now, we’re seeing that early tests on the first batch of production chips from TSMC are showing that it can ‘beat GTX580′.
OK, enough of the raw info, what does it mean ‘beat GTX580′?
KitGuru employs the matchplay system.
If, on a spread of top gaming benchmarks, one card wins more than the other, then it’s faster.
Gaming benchmarks does not take into account anything ‘written by AMD to make Radeon look good’. That’s a showcase, not a benchmark.
Real games, that sell in high quantity and which place demands on the features that matter – especially in DX11.
The info we’ve intercepted says that Radeon HD 6970 will beat GTX580 in a majority of benchmarks. Some statement. This will have to be severely tested.
KitGuru says: Our Dual Xeon decode system is processing as fast as we can get it. We’d expect the next revelation in less than 12 hours."

I don't spend a lot of time in this forum (surprisingly) so maybe Ejizz has a reputation for being a troll? However, as I have not seen evidence of that, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Sad that that comes across as obtuseness.

He just turned up one day and first 3 posts were all attempts to incite a reaction... judging by the apparent knowledge/references to very old posts and familiarity with the various usernames I'm fairly convinced its either someones whos been banned under a new name or an alt for someone else here. I've noticed 1-2 other accounts like this recently as well.

Anyway, now would be a good time for me say...

"Nothing to see here, move along people".

Look forward to some info that's more solid instead of just yet another speculation next time. If 6970 really beat GTX580, or simply on par with it, I'm all for it, as it would mean greater competition and better price for us consumers.

Are people that bothered about others suggesting a 6970 is going to be faster than a 580? My opinion is that the 6970 will be a fail if it doesn't at least equal a 580.

I think it will be a fail if it doesn't equal it yet costs the same. I don't mind it being a bit slower if its more than a bit cheaper though :)

Theres nothing wrong with having a little choice.

Generation ahead in what way? number revisions aside they are exactly the same generation feature wise and technical progress wise as the current Fermi cards. The only aspect that they are generationally better than Fermi is in the ability to drive multiple additional displays.

Probably in the fact it's AMD's 2nd generation of DX11 GPU, where's the GTX 580 is still essentially Fermi with some fixes.

I'm not bothered if it does beat it. Of course I might have slight regrets I didn't wait because of couse logically it would have made sense to wait then go out and buy 2 580's. But I do insane things with graphics cards all the time. Went from Sapphire 5870 to 2 Sapphire 5870's to 2 Sapphire Toxic 2gig cards to 3 Sapphire Toxic 2gig cards to 3 GTX 480 to 2 5970 4gig Sapphire, back to 2 GTX 480, and now 2 GTX 580. I've a 3rd GTX 580 on the way. Makes no sense at all but there you have it. I still run the the 5970 4gig x 2 setup on a 2nd rig :)

1 thing I will say - is I'm having a much better driver experience with Nvidia. No more gsods, vsods displayport issues etc.. Strangley only had the problems on non reference cards. And I do think the games I've played so far provide a slightly smoother gaming experience on my Nvidia setup. Possibly less micro stutter is a factor here.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how fast the 6970 is.

Fermi and the 5 series are the same generations, that makes the 6 series a generation ahead of Fermi.
