Do you leave you pc on 24/7?

My HTPC spends most of its time in sleep, waking only to record Homes Under the Hammer... No ill effects so far, apart from Media Center questioning my viewing tastes. :D

Conversely, my main PC (, and indeed all my PC's through the years) gets switched on and off all the time during the day and has never given me any grief... Any one who freaks out about doing this really should take a chill pill. I suppose if you have some flaky highly strung billion GHz over clocked system running off a 400w Tesco Value PSU, then this might be cause for concern. :D

My Crucial SSD's don't seem to be suffering under my regime, which is probably just as well. If the price of a well maintained SSD was leaving the computer on 24/7, I'd probably reconsider my storage options. Probably. ;)
 
It depends on what I use the machine for. For stability testing and science e.i. F@H/Seti etc, you pretty much just leave the thing going about its business day in day out, until you are happy with the results. I hibernate my main machine when not in use, and turn it off when I go away for an extended period of time, unless I need to dial in remotely into it.

:eek: this sounds so pro-like. I wish I could do that as I travel a lot...Well I assume dialling in remotedly means you can access your rig's content even when, say on holidays in la costa del sol? That would be soooo cool for me:D
 
Always turn mine off, waste not want not. Even if it's not a huge amount of energy it saves, I don't mind switching it on first thing as I get up and then go sort a bowl of cereal or whatever, only to return to it freshly booted.
 
I used to have mine on 24/7 because I was a constant downloader. But since getting rid of broadband for a dongle(Temporary) I've started turning it off at night. No point leaving it on without an always on internet connection!
 
Boots up in about 20 secs, don't see the need to leave it on. Even the monitor takes about 10 secs to get going.

Back in the day with slow HDD's and several minutes startup though, sure it was probably good.
 
mine goes to sleep after 15 minutes of idle time when im not home all day... but if im off work etc then its on all day cos i would use it so often :O)
