***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

But without a few bits and bobs which come with the G27 like flappy paddles, helical gears and several generations of QC revisions and it's 'shipping December'

I just had an email to tell me that my G27 has shipped today, the wifee just told me that she's taking our son to the 'rents for a couple of days for granddad's birthday and to cap it off nicely the neighbours are in Hawaii for another 2 weeks so I can turn everything up to 11 for the next few days.

Time to print out the G27 fixing template, dig out a few 6mm stainless bolts and charge up me drill :D

Sorry, I wasn't trying to undermine your purchase, the G27 is a great wheel.. The post was aimed at other people who may be considering a wheel, it was more to put the point that if 'price' is an issue, there is this great wheel in the middle ground.

But to address the points you raise, the wheel has been in pre-production since early 2009, and SRT have that orginal review, so this wheel also has been through quite a bit of QC since then, and been released in America for 6 Months+
And it does comes with flappy paddles, they are just very small 'nubs' rather then huge massive paddles, but should you wish to have alloy large paddles, they are a £15 option (£23 if you want Carbon), and can be retro fitted.

The G27 fits in nicely in the £200-£250ish bracket, it has better pedals then the stock Fanatecs, and the helical gears should reduce backlash etc (It doesn't have the on-wheel configurability though), but if other people want 'the best', I'd recommend if you have the extra money, then the Belt Driven Fanatec GT3RS V2 Clubsport edition wheel is that next step up, the Clubsport pedals are insanely superb (All alloy, adjustable, load cell brake pedal with ABS vibration, I have them on my own setup), and the GT3RS has all the configurability the Carrera wheel does, but a belt driven setup which some may prefer (smoother and more direct, it's truer to a real car's wheel response, but has slightly less initial FFB aggression then a gear wheel).

People have excellent choices if they want a wheel, I'd massively recommend the Fanatec Carrera for £150, if people have more money(~£225), they can look at the G27 (also excellent), and if they have even more (~£275), the GT3RS V2 Clubsport is probably the best until you get into seriously silly money.

^ she can review my wheel (and gearknob) anytime. ^

i take it you mean the simraceway chick.!! Man, has she got a good, erm airbags, yes that's it... Nice airbags seeing as we're talking about cars etc, look very comfortable and soft to smash your face into..!!:D

I watch simraceway youtube vids on my TV, gf did comment once that the only reason I watch that show is not for the reviews of racing stuff, but for the chick.. How dare she say that.!! I watch this show for the informative information... Erm, actually can't remember what they reviewed, mind was elsewhere..!!:p

8 days till we burn rubber..!! Can't wait..

I've read bad thing of the customer support with Fanatec wheels though. I think you have to purchase from them direct right? They take weeks to ship despite suggesting on the site that they are "ready for despatch" and often do not respond to emails at all. I was reading the forums and one guys turned up clearly previously used which is a shame as the wheels look good. They also don't have many in stock for Europe and seem to charge twice the price in Europe compared to US.

As for G27 vs G25. I thought that the G25 came with a sequential shifter and that the G27 doesn't? i.e. G27 can only use 6 speed H shaped gears like everyday car, where as the G25 could be used as a sequential in line shifter like touring/rally cars.

Correct, but as I've never used a sequential box I'm not missing anything.

The G27 has also addressed some of the build quality issues the G25 had and moved the programmable buttons from the shifter to the wheel.

I reckon the flappy paddles will be far more useful than a sequential box.

Man I'm starting to feel like a proper kid. ONLY 8 days (Poss even 7!) days to go! I'm a 24yr old man and the anticipation of this game dropping onto my doormat has reduced me to ADHD like behaviour just thinking/talking about it :p:D

£250 for the G27...hmm. Can't really justify that on a wheel....can I? lol Nah it's unfair. The kids would have to have a Satsuma and a piece of string for xmas.

I wasn't gonna buy it beacuse I thought GT4 was a bit dull, mainly due to the uncompetitive AI.

Now it's near I'm finding it hard to resisit sticking cash down on a preorder.

Play online ? It looks to have the best MP driving system ive seen, car clubs, track days, track sharing, Rally modes, etc etc. Looks a very good feature set TBH, well to come from nothing to this is a big step i just hope it works :)
The AI in the S Class in GT5P was pretty hard and was decent challenge, i expect we wont see the best part of the AI till later levels.

Just a note i saw about the G27/25 seems like the G27 isnt fully supported yet in GT5, something to do with the firmware, not sure what is and isnt working but i heard that only the G25 and of course the DFGT are fully supported.

I feel like a 10 year old waiting for Christmas. And i'm 27 :p

Hah same as though. Shame they don't have your Mondeo ST in it, that would've been fun :)

Also I hope Sony don't do the same thing as Activision where they demand the courriers to hold the deliveries until release date, every pre-order from Shopto has come a day early bar COD, heres hoping

I may have missed this but is there going to be 3 gear options like forza? and if there is, will there be a big advantage for people chosing manual gears + clutch... just like forza?

I sincerely hope not :(

I tried driving with a manual clutch in Forza 3. I crashed into a wall doing about 30mph at 12k revs or something stupid. I stick with semi-auto these days.

Oh absolutely, I can't drive with a manual clutch/pad on forza 3 however you are at a major disadvantage online if you choose not to use it, this is my concern with GT5.
