***** SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID HDD/SSD ***** IN STOCK NOW!!

Wouldnt say that....

The intel 80GB can b e had for 129 if you shop around...

I would say thats a price drop!

i would say that is deprecation as faster models come on the market, i did not pay that much more. my point is a lot of people suspected SSD would be half the price by now, i remember one thread someone stating you would be getting 256gb for under £100 by June of this year :D

Yeah, agree, its not dropped "that" fast.... the 120Gb infernos look a decent buy at the moment.....

Exchange rate hasnt helped and I cant see that improving much more from here...

it is frustrating as i really want to get a speed boast in my laptop, but also need the space, someone mentioned optical bay caddies, but my i7 lappy cost to much money to start making case mods to fit it, as i have a 4 year warranty

edit, Patriot Inferno 120GB looking like a good price, anyone got one?

No word from ocuk yet on the quality/stability of these drives then?

I have an XT drive sitting right next to me now, but don't want to open it and void my return if they're no good :( (seller won't accept a used return). Although the videos on youtube look pretty impressive for what I'm after.

oh well how things change, my order was cancelled for the SSD and i have now ordered the MOMENTUS XT from ocuk, should be with me tomorrow. will report back

are theses really slower than a desktop hdd?

review sites says theses are quicker,

Yep they are faster. They have 4GB flash onboard, which acts as a sort of large cache to the mechanical drive. However its stability is questionable if you look on the seagate forums. Some people have a great experience with it, some don't.

What I'm personally concerned about is the audio/video playback with these drives. I use logic and pro tools and occasionally have to import some video to sync with quite a lot of audio files all in one project. Therefore I need perfect playback otherwise its no use :/

If for example i played gothic 3 one day then gothic 3 the next would the loading performance improve ? , how many times would i have to play it for it to be cached

i dont fully understand how it works, but im hearing it takes a few reboots before it starts to get the speed

still waiting for mine, due today :)

well installed windows, office and a few apps, so far seems quicker, not as quick as my ssd on my main pc, but quicker, i timmed the bootup which is 10 seconds faster than the previous drive. which was a seagate standard 7200rpm

well i have not benchmarked it as i have never bench marked anything, it is quicker than the standard drive i had, it boots quicker and the apps i use the most, being office and winamp load much quicker as does steam. i have ssd on my main pc and its not as quick as that, but sits somewhere in the middle of a standard drive and a ssd. so if u have a laptop and you need some speed but also only have room for 1 drive then this is a good option.

Ordered one and it's here but my new laptop isn't here to install it yet..

Considering an SSD of any decent size (120gb+) would have been about a 1/3rd of the entire cost of the laptop I just couldn't justify it.

imo the hybrid drive will be the way forward, I can see a 20gb SSD main partition and a 200Gb+ secondary partitiion working really well. In fact, so well they may even replace SSD's entirely. They're just far too much money
