Clio 200 Cup via finance

If I negotiated a deal on the phone with the dealer you used adam, do you think I could pay deposit over the phone and only have to travel to Chelmsford to pick the car up. Bit far to go just to arrange the paperwork.

chap I know did this, did it all over the phone.

Correct, going from 1 dealer to the next. A guy on the renaultsport forum paid £14,600 for his FF200 with GW paint, cup chassis and black speedlines so I set myself the task of bettering it. I made it very clear to dealers that I wanted the best price and was prepared to shop around. Eventually I got to a price that I knew I couldn't beat.

FYI - Wests in Bedford, Lookers (Chelmsford and Chester) and the ones on the renaultsport forum were all competitive.

Yes I think a trip up to Chelmsford is looming! There are 2 more main dealers that are very local to me so i will give them a try first. I do feel like i am getting somewhere with my local (Wilsons, Epsom) but i doubt they will be able to match what you got!

Thank you for your continued help with this. Much appreciated :)

I test drove a 197 cup today (as they dont have any 200's at Wilsons) to give me an idea of what i can expect and it was very good. Obviously before i definitely commit to any offer i will demand that a 200 cup gets sent down for my perusal.

Strangely enough, despite living only 15 miles from Chelmsford, this is exactly what I did. I was at work when I was negotiating and I paid the deposit over the phone. The signing of the paperwork was done in person on Saturday but it only required 1 signature. I'm sure you could send it via post.

No problem, I was helped by someone on the forum. The key to this is knowing what other people have paid then you have to do some leg work to get some real quotes for dealers to beat. It's quite a lengthy process but I'm glad I did it.

My email is in my trust, happy to put you in contact with the sales person I used.

Well, I did it! I have on order a Clio RS200 in Albi blue with the black speedline alloy wheels and the cup pack. Lookers in Chelmsford gave me a cracking deal which I couldn't refuse. Very pleased overall :)

I will pay £999 deposit plus the extras up front (although the paint was discounted) and £174 per month for 24 months plus a GFV of £9350. Other dealers couldn't get close to this deal so I'm genuinely pleased with it. Thanks to everyone in this thread for their advice :)

Went to Crawley Renault and the best that they could do 'apparantly' was £227 a month with a £1000 deposit and the options paid up front. GFV of £9240.

Thats £53 more per month, so you effectively saved £1272 (ish) off the already discounted price (over the 24 month period aswell!) How did you pull that one off!

This would be the first new car i will have bought and i wouldnt have a clue on what to say to get £1270 off an already very good offer!

Did you manage to negotiate anything in terms of mileage?

I'm doing 12k a year in my 172 - it's only a matter of time until it starts breaking down and this 200 deal sounds good....just not at 6k miles per year.

Just have to push and be cheeky I guess, helps if you start off with a better quote then give other dealers the opportunity to beat it. You'll soon find 2/3 dealers who will come down in price to a level where they are throwing in extras rather than discounting the car. There is only so much they can discount the car, one dealer said Renault wouldn't let them put the order through for any less so they couldn't get near to the quote :)

Interesting thread, once I got past the initial bickering I got some useful information, does anyone have a link to the cliosport forums with the info on this, apologies if it's already here I'm being lazy.

Just need to convince the gf as she isn't set on the idea obviously... It actually makes more sense than spanking a load of money I've saved for an older 172. That's going to depreciate so I'd rather pay the bit extra and have something a lot more up to date.

£200 a month with the initial deposit doesn't seem bad considering how fun these cars are.

As said just considering my options I know I want a new car and I know I want a CS.

EDIT : Just saw someone got it for 174/month. hmm

Whilst I agree it's a good deal an older 172 probably isn't going to depreciate by any meaningful amount, given they are already what, only £2k?

What they might do is cost you a bit in running costs, what with belt changes etc, so the 200 deal might still make sense. Just bear in mind after the 2 years if you hand it back you dont have a car :)

That seems like a brilliant deal. If you could message me the details, email in trust.

After looking at the various deals I have absoloutely no idea how you've managed that. Fair play on the haggling.

My gf will be running the Mondeo so the being without a car thing shouldn't be a worry providing the Mondeo lasts ok.

I do have 3k saved to spend on a 172 but in all honesty..I've already had one. This deal seems quite attractive and a bit less hassle for me at the minute. I just have absoloutely no idea what spec I'd want or which dealer to go to  that many options.

There is a 33 page thread over at cs.net about this.

If there are a few things I'm certain about I wouldn't want the recaros but would want anthracite speedlines.

The FF is different how to the standard Cup?

Happy to talk you through it and even put you in contact with the salesman I used. My email is in my trust.

Mine is now being built :)

Sorry just going back to this, the FF has keyless entry, climate control, auto wipers/headlights, nicer dash and body coloured mouldings (as well as other things). If you are looking at adding air con it's worth going for the FF I suspect. The cup pack (£400'ish) is also well worth adding.

perfect, do you have MSN?

No sorry.

So can you summarise in complete your payments plus the extras you added.

How much have you set on the extras with deposit?

I'd want the FF with Cup but it's looking like I'll need to haggle. I'm baffled at how little you're paying a month considering the set deals around. I need to set the wheels in motion tomorrow.

First I need to find out what spec I'd need. Going to go to local renault tomorrow to have a look at a few.

Emailed you.

Definitely doesn't make sense at all to load it with options considering I'll be handing the keys back so thats that pretty much sorted. The only extras providing i went ff is cup pack and speedlines because for 180 they're decent,

wondering if I can put up without aircon and the soft touch plastics and all the other things I enjoyed with my 172 FF for 2 years though if I did just plump for a boggo Cup with speedlines for a cheaper deal.

Ordered from Lookers Chelmsford today

Clio RS 200 - Cup Pack - Speedlines (Black)

Vehicle cost: £14805
Deposit: £1676.95
First Payment: £288.82
Monthly payment: £189.82
Final payment: £9350
Mileage: 5000 miles per year.
APR 4.4%

With a full tank of fuel and mats on delivery. They also discounted the Albi Blue for me.

Compared to Adams super deal I ended up paying £355 more than him vehicle cost but they said they had actually lost money on Adams deal to me and simply refused to put the same order through again no matter how much I haggled or attacked them with other quotes. This was the lowest I managed.

Thanks a lot for the help over the past few days Adam :)

5000 miles a year is very low!

So was the original 6000 first quoted*. I've done 9000 miles since January in the Mondeo. I'm happy to pay the excess at the end of the 2 year agreement.
