I always assumed there would be duty and VAT on something like a graphics card but it looks like there is no need if it's within your total allowance (£390).
I paid £189.99 for my Giga 1GB. I know prices drop over time and I probably paid a brand new product premium but £50 in 6 months is kinda depressing.
The correct pricing for the GTX 460s are as follows
- £120 for 768MB inc reference cooler
- £125 for 768MB inc enhanced cooler
- £125 for 768MB inc Overclock
- £130 for 768MB inc enhanced cooler + Overclock
These prices are approximately accurate within £5.00 . . . there should not be more than £20-£25 difference between a like-for-like 768MB unit and a 1024MB unit . . .
- £140 for 1024MB inc reference cooler
- £145 for 1024MB inc enhanced cooler
- £145 for 1024MB inc Overclock
- £150 for 1024MB inc enhanced cooler + Overclock
Someone has been "quietly" applying a little bit of a "stealth" tax on the 1024MB models . . . in the space of a few weeks we seem to have gone from six 1024MB models falling in the sub £150 "sweetspot" to just one?
Let us not forget just how good the £120 768MB GTX 460 is @ 1920x1200 . . . its very hard to "justify" more than an extra £20-£25 extra spend on the 1024MB models . . . there really shouldn't be that many 1024MB units priced above £150 as its just a rip-off . . . . extra money is being taken from the punters in an effort to increase the business profits . . . naughty!

I was looking into these cards recently and ended up deciding between the two.
If the 768MB version was £125 and the 1024MB version was £150, then for Nvidia to justify the 20% (I know you like percentages/price comparissons BigW) price hike, the 1024MB would need to outscore the 768MB version by at least 20% IMO.
According to the graphs above it does not and only two of the 11 tests come close - STALKER and Crysis.
Overall it ends up being £25 for 256MB, which I'm sure nobody would go out and buy these days.
So Wayne does have a good point.
Yes, except for the fact that the card has 50% more ROP units as wellIt does overclock better too.
