***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Did you play Forza 2? Or any other GT game before? Pretty sure they didnt have cockpit view and we got round it. You could also just use the 200+ premium cars and not use the rest, i expect that all classes will be covered with premium models.

No I didn't play Forza 2, Yes played all the other GT games, They didn't push wheel support as much as this one. Christ I have a wheel that's built for GT5.

Maybe I just feel a little robbed as I've spent close to £200 on a wheel set up and will realistically only b-able to use 200 of the 1000 cars. I'm a GT fan boy had them all and put many hours into them. Was promised more from this game and this stupid standard/premium car stuff is a joke. I don't care which way you try to spin it, It's a cop out.

I'm sure I will love the game but I'm going to be sticking to premium only cars for the most part.

Surely there will be some kind of generic internal view for use with a wheel on standard cars?

Nope there isn't.

The one thing I'm sad about, was sad with GT4, and Prologue is the lack of my 3 favourite tracks, well, 3 tracks, 1 tuning ground, Apricot Hill and Seattle, and the Gran Turismo 3 Complex String, used to have hours of fun tuning there!

Really Apricot hill and complex string??!?!?! both played really like artificial tracks made up my drawing a line on a bit of paper.... (Apricot hill I thought was a dull/poor copy of suzuka)

Seattle is a loss though :(

Are there any good reviews up yet?

I've not got a PS3 but was considering buying one for this game, but the feedback so far seems poor.

I have read many positive reviews, but they have stopped as they are too busy you know playing the game maybe lol. As for site reviews, embargo till 8am Weds morning, but the MP part doesnt go up till Tuesday. Many sites in the US only got their copy this weekend/today.

Yep rubbish, save your money....

Thanks Bell-end.

Yea, I read that on IGN, just didn't know if any amateurs got their reviews up yet. I'll wait till I can try this game out for myself, maybe at a friends before I go spunking loads of cash on it. I love racing in cars and being able to do this while the season is over until next year will be brilliant. That Merc video looks impressive, but I can still hear the annoying tyre squeal from previous GT games!

Probably best Mr Latte left before actually getting his hands on the game :).

In fact, he's probably exploded already.

Probably trying to get over the fact that he bought 3 x 60gb PS3s for GT5, yet they havn't put multiscreen in the game.

I feel sorry for the lad, maybe they will patch it.

Anyway, Hello Mr Latte.... or is it " you talk bul"?

Apricot was fun, and Complex string was a great tuning/benchmark track, no good for racing, but I used to love thrashing cars round there to test them out, really perfectly done! Gonna try and recreate it with the course editor!

Seattle is one of my favourite ever tracks but at least this will have my other favourites like Trial Mountain, Deep Forest Gateaux and Grand Valley. Oh and is Autumn Ring and the Ring Mini in as well?

I genuinelly don't understand the car list. There are numerous notable exceptions and missing cars that you'd really expect to find in a game like this with a car count of over 1000. Then there are numerous inclusions that simply make no sense.

Why so many versions of some of the cars? Do we really need a 94 and a 97 FTO of each of the different trim levels? 6 FTO's? Why is the Corsa 1.4 Comfort in the game but the Corsa SRi isn't? It's a racing game, what possible reason is there to choose the 'Comfort' version over the 'SRI' version? Why did we even need the Corsa anyway? Just how many Honda Jazz do we need? Do we really need the 95, 98 and 00 revision of the DC2 Integra Type R? I mean just how different can they be?

Why a 2002 SL500 *and* a 2002 SL600? They are both identical looking cars just stick the 600 in surely?

Why this many variants of the SAME RX7?

448.S Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RZ (FD) ‘92
449.S Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RZ (FD) ‘93
450.S Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RZ (FD) ‘95
451.S Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RZ (FD) ‘96

Why a 2005 330i but not the 2010 version instead? Why no E30 M3? E39 M5? Why every S series Audi ever yet none of the older Merc AMG's?

It just makes hardly any sense, really. The car choices are frankly bizarre. As happy as I am to see the Citroen Xantia featured in the game is it really fair it occupies a slot that could have been taken up by something like a Lotus Exige, a car not featured at all?

They are either paving the way for future DLC or as you say it's just truly odd car selection. Still, even though there are omissions just look at the cars that are included.

:)

If it was a western game it would be every version of the Mondeo, all sorts of BMWs, Renaults etc, and the Japanese gamers would be moaning that they hadn't included their favourite this, that, or the other. Just be grateful that they kept in the 240 GLT, could have swapped it for some mundane 5 series or something.

Some of it is a way of cheating the car count higher.

Lets look at another example I know well, the FTO.

578.S Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R ‘97
579.S Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R ‘99
580.S Mitsubishi FTO GPX ‘94
581.S Mitsubishi FTO GPX ‘97
582.S Mitsubishi FTO GPX ‘99
583.S Mitsubishi FTO GR ‘94
584.S Mitsubishi FTO GR ‘97

There are 7 cars there. Yet in reality, all of them are the same car. The only external difference between the 94 and the 97 models is a slightly different front bumper and a bigger wing on the GP Version R. The other differences are purely mechanical. So they can whack the same car in 7 times by tweaking the front bumper and the power levels in the stats and then claim wow look we've got 1000 cars.

That still doesnt explain why you'd do something like include a Corsa 1.4 Comfort but not a sporty version, or why you'd have..

555.S MINI COOPER S ‘02
556.P MINI COOPER S ‘05
557.P MINI COOPER S ‘07

3 Mini's? Ok the 07 one is an R56 but the 02 and 05 are the same! The only difference will be the fact the 05 one says 05 in the title. Grrr.

And seriously Polyphony...

BMW M5 ‘05
88.P BMW M5 ‘08

Most people cant tell the difference on the ROAD between the pre and post facelift E60 M5, let alone on a game. For the geeky amongst you it's LED indicators and different LED back lights on the facelift. Yet it's wasting a spot that could have been filled with an E34 or E39 M5 instead of two versions of the SAME CAR :(

In reality there are about 250-300 cars in this game. Even the most die hard of Honda enthusiasts wont go 'oooh, I must buy both the 2002 and 2003 version of the same generation of Honda S2000, getting the right type of rear indicator is important!'.

Apparently there is something like 800 unique cars. Haven't bothered counting them but I'm sure there are still quite a lot of unique vehicles even if it isn't as high a number as 800.

Where is the cheapest place to get this fellas?
I hadn't really been that bothered about it until now really as i was really looking forward to Fifa and F1 2010.
Cheers.
