***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

If you are playing it with a pad, you may as well play it blindfolded. You are missing the entire point on EVERY scale.

whilst a wheel is nice it is not pointless as you seem to state to play with a pad.
every other racing game out there can be played fine and well with a pad and it should not somehow dampen the game otherwise.

I read that too lol.

But theyre the mainstream critics.... I want the reviews of the specialists. Sim Racing. Head over to their site. They also have a youtube page.
and they also have for once summed up the game nicely.

Sorry but the premium cars look great (Inside and out).
not all of them do actually, theres a lot of murky textures even on many of the premium cars both inside and out.

I also think it's too clinical, like everything is trying to be too perfect to the point where it looks a little fake. The tracks seem bland and almost too clean somehow, and there's small annoyances like the awful flickering shadows to the engine sound not changing when going through a tunnel, something I thought they would nail. It's little things like that that throw the whole illusion of racing off for me.

Meh, I'm sure I'll keep playing :o

This sums up exactly how I feel about both GT5:P and GT5. The strive for perfection means there is no soul left in the game. Everything just feels very static and boring, it seems like you are almost driving amongst lines of programming code (picture those final scenes in the matrix film), the hunt for realism is going too far in my opinion, it just proves to me that a computer game pushed too far into the hunt for realism/perfection actually never achieves that goal and goes back around the loop again. Reality is not perfect, nor should a game world be made to be so, it just feels so wrong.

Pfft, perhaps I'm just an arcade racer guy, give me Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit any day :D

<disclaimer><flame proof suit=on> Just my opinion guys! </disclaimer>

Well either you're a good driver or you had the assists switched of.

Either way I look forward to seeing your track times (if you still have the game).

Add me D-MVN

He's an excellent driver mate, topped the lap charts on F1 2010!

Have to agree with Demon though, as much as I enjoy the likes of GT5 and FM3 they are not on a level as PC in terms of outright simulation.

I think the most unforgiving racing sim that I have played is easily Richard Burns Rally, make one tiny mistake and game over. Loved that game, but PD won't do something like this because the full on hardcore market is so niche they would upset about 95% of the players because it would be too hard.

I am going to pick it up today (GT5) and I am going to enjoy it for what it is, a light hearted sim at best. Looks fantastic from what I have seen so far.:D

I will be time-trialling, of that there is no doubt, I seem to be OK at this type of game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to invest a lot of time in GT5, I can work around flaws, and it'll be my game of choice for the next year no doubt.. It is a great game, I'm hooked already!

I'll add you on PSN! (my PSN is PzR_Crazy)

Good Driver!

This should be interesting then :D

Zonda R.... Drive It!

Disagree there. Murky is what you find in Forza (the interior is bland).

GT's premium cars are top notch... second to none.

have you used all the cars? id imagine no..... go and have a whizz on some more premium cars and you will soon see, il get some pics up tongiht to show you. heck even some of the badges on the premium cars are really badly textured!

i actually find the interiors of forza to be more visually pleasing.

..And why didnt they include a special mode, say called "The Friggin' awesome tunnel test", whereby you can just drive a selection of the best sounding cars through a long straight stretch of tunnel and experience that awesome tunnel sound, like when Hammond (iirc) takes the Zonda through one on Top Gear... How awesome would that be, or perhaps it's just me ??

a lot of critics believe GT5 is tailored to the more hardcore petrol head.... Whereas Forza is aimed at the more casual gamers (good idea from turn10 as such games **** units).

Doesn't Forza have a much deeper upgrading and tuning system? And if the handling is comparable then I'm not sure where you're getting this from? Although you did say...

I dont care about Forza lol. GT5 is my PS3's racing game!

So maybe you were never going to offer a terribly balanced opinion.

I 100% agree with you. Ive seen some amazing racers on sim racing!

Consoles can only do so much!

That wasnt my opinion..... That is what I've read.

I've played Forza a few times. And I have problem giving it credit.

You haven't played it enough then.

You're right.... However this is only because I no longer own an xbox.

I can only judge what I've seen.

There are a number feats in Forza that I really like and that I wish featured in GT5. Like the ability to sell cars to other players and the huge levels of cometic customisation!

IC-4 is strange. The one where you drive the Evo IX on Eiger Nordwand hairpin. On my first attempt I misjudged the slide horribly, smashed into the wall, had to reverse and correct, then hit the next wall and still got Gold. The timings seem very out  Not that i'm complaining though :D
