I bought a Turbo Yaris from a dodgey 2nd hand dealer.
TBF this game isn't friendly for novices/people who don't know much about cars.
It pains me to say it, but i think Forza has become the better series.

Nothing at all relevant for me to buy either new or second hand for several races I need to do, which comes back to my point of do you have to wait for certain cars to be available before you can do certain races? If so, very frustrating if you want to get a particular series out of the way.
Think it's the 2 whiny, moaning Americans...
I recall waiting around for certain used cars to become available in GT2 at least (and/or possibly GT3) that would randomly show up. However I don't remember them being essential for anything, they were just special editions etc I think. Maybe they've kept this system in GT5. Anyone else remember this?
Trying to get the penniless trophy but i can't shift 145 credits
can you not do the car wash/oil change that used to be in gt3/4 that used to cost something like 50 credits or something, probs one of the trophies to try and get at the start.
mines instaling 40 seconds left (for the past 10 mins or so lol)
Same here, i've spent the last hour shouting every time I get DQ'd by pushing it too far. He keeps beating me but such a small margin too. Awesome race though

Just installed and tried the first Sunday Cup race in an EK9 Civic Type R.
When I chose cockpit view it seems everything outside is slightly vibrating? I mean, the scenery etc. Anyone else had this or have I missed something?
Also the audio seems to have forced itself into PCM mode meaning my amp doesn't see it as 5.1. Anybody had similar?

Had the same issue yesterday when I was trying to complete the old classic races. I couldn't find/buy/earn any qualifying car. However, today the used dealership had a few old cars in their so I bought one and I'm off again.
I guess it's to make you play the other events/licences rather than just powering through the game at break-neck speed. I must admit, it worked as I concentrated on the licences!

Go to the far right, if in the Lotus, brake just before the big white line. Done
Personally I think it's crap. If I want to do a particular race I should be able to do it whenever I want as I've already qualified through the level system, not have to wait to buy the car I need through chance.

Ok forced the PS3 to 720 and tried GT5 again... Nah it still tears when there is a lot on screen etc...
Pointless, game isn't v sync or it has adaptive sync, as replays are smooth as silk. Still, at 720 I could read the text..??
Back to 1080 I go.
Done the camper van top gear test track, nearly rage quit twice, man that was frustrating.... Managed to get 1st by overtaking three vans (how i don't know) on my last lap on my god only knows how many attempts at gambon is it?? I'm useless at remember track corner names at times..
And anyone who says this game has no sense of speed, do the camper van stage, then jump into a nascar at daytona like I just did.. OMG. It was fast, slipstreaming really does work in this game..
forza hasn't overtaken GT5, GT5 was just too damn late and its right on par, this is Forza 3 (minus decent damage model though) for PS3. Forza lacked weather etc.... GT5 lacks damage...
they are the same type of games, if you own both 360 and PS3 then get both..!! Both are great games, and hours of fun to be had..

edit - oh and GT5 is now in par in my mind as the more you seem to play GT5 the more you realise it is just the same as forza just different tracks, cars and weather. I remember GT5P being more, well clean looking. GT5 looks a lot like forza, its quite scary in places.... both are good looking games. I thought last night forza had beaten GT5.. not so sure now.

If you get gold on the camper van event on the TG track it should unlock for Arcade and practice modes.
I think you can also use your career cars in arcade mode, but you might have to set them as favourites or choose from your career garage.
